"The Integral Life"

John 8:2-11a

Be Impeccable with Your Word. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love. Don Miguel Ruiz

“To be in harmony is to live in the Great Integrity, the ultimate wisdom.” ~ Lao Tzu

We learned about honesty and integrity - that the truth matters... that you don't take shortcuts or play by your own set of rules... and success doesn't count unless you earn it fair and square. Michelle Obama

Join us for "Taosim",

a course created by Glenda Taylor and facilitated by Rev. David Wynn.

Glenda Taylor writes:

“This is for me one of the favorite things that I have presented through the years, through story-telling, art, references to history, and through other means, in workshops and lectures in several states and now online. I consider it so valuable to us at this particular time, as it explores a way of life that brings peace of mind and serenity of spirit, even in chaotic times like what we are experiencing today. Taoism is an ancient Chinese wisdom. This self-paced seven-lesson course is packed with audio and video content, suggestions for contemplation and activity, quotations and vocabulary, suggestions for further study, and a great deal more. All seven lessons are free for now.”

A Special MCC Screening of

The Eyes of Tammy Faye

this Wednesday/Thursday

Following the screening, there will be an interview with Rev. Steve Pieters whose iconic 1985 interview with Tammy Faye about AIDS is highlighted.

Searchlight Pictures, WIT PR, and MCC are pleased to offer a special virtual screening for the upcoming film The Eyes of Tammy Faye, releasing in theaters September 17th. There is no cost to attend this screening.

You must register in advance to attend and use the password. See below.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye is an intimate look at the extraordinary rise, fall and redemption of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. In the 1970s and 80s, Tammy Faye and her husband, Jim Bakker, rose from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and theme park, and were revered for their message of love, acceptance and prosperity. Tammy Faye was legendary for her indelible eyelashes, her idiosyncratic singing, and her eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life. However, it wasn’t long before financial improprieties, scheming rivals, and scandal toppled their carefully constructed empire.

MCC SCREENING

Available between the hours of

Wednesday, 15th September, 4pm EDT / 8pm GMT through

Thursday, 16th September, 2am EDT / 6am GMT

Here is the link that MCCers can use to register for this upcoming special screening. When you click on the green Register link, you will need to input the password TAMMY (all caps) to sign up for a ticket. Share this invitation with your congregation.

It is our understanding that the links will work beyond North America but we cannot guarantee this. Further, it is our understanding that the stories of Jim and Tammy Faye Baker made international news. The story of Rev. Steve Pieters' interview with Tammy is an important part of MCC history.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Come Together to Support Afghan Women and Girls

“Safety and security of women and children will determine the well-being and strength of our nations” - Rajnath Singh

The Taliban's takeover in Afghanistan has put the rights -- and lives -- of hundreds of thousands of Afghan women and girls at extreme risk.

To rally behind these precious individuals and the progress they are entitled to, Spiritual Playdate calls on our global peace education partners to come together in support of protecting and promoting their most basic human rights.

And because we know that finding meaningful ways to help in times of crisis can seem overwhelming, we've identified a simple way that you can make a difference today.

A donation to Women for Women will provide a lifeline to Afghan women and children who are suffering; supporting desperately needed lifesaving services for those who have endured unspeakable human rights violations at the hands of the Taliban.

Sending positivity and prayers to these women and girls is crucial, but sending resources to uphold their health and safety is absolutely critical, so please join us in supporting this incredible organization by donating HERE today.

Thank you,

Edwina Cowell

SPIRITUAL BREATH

Stop Seeking, Start Finding

Why do you seek when you are made of the very Light you long for?

Does the fish seek water, the hawk seek air?

Every particle in your Being is the Infinite made finite.

All of creation is the face of the Nameless One.

Light a candle before yourself.

Polish the gold of the chalice you are.

Rejoice and be glad!

Your hands and feet, your lips and eyes,

your hair and heart– all this:

the Word made flesh, the Thought made real.

Everywhere you look is the face of God:

unavoidable, inexhaustible, ever-expressing.

Fold into this Mystery and tears of joy

will wash away your sorrows.

All that you seek

is the You who is seeking.

Go inside, finder.

Bask in Its Glorious Grace.

Weekly Call to Prayer

Bad news, bad news!

The world is bad news

You say

But it just so happens

I am not of this world

So….buzz off

I hear (of) calamities

Real and unreal

Bold and emboldened

But I am not of this world

So…yeah

Your news arrives like a bad smell

Today I might step right over it

Yesterday I cleaned

Tomorrow I might disinfect

But I am not of this world

However.

Ugh.

Here I am, of-ing this world.

However-ing.

Here I am.

How?

Ever?

And,

How (to) ever?

Merci for the red, yellow, gold, brown

Yes to the crisp air of September

Yes to the promise of an end

Yes to going to bed and

Yes (to) waking again.

I am not of this world,

How-ever.
