Support ANAC during Nurses Week | | |
During Nurses Week and throughout the month of May, we’re celebrating more than a profession - we’re honoring a movement.
A movement shaped by courageous care, bold science and steadfast commitment - even in the face of funding cuts and political setbacks. We’re inviting you to join us in sustaining this work with a gift to ANAC. Whether you're a longtime member, new supporter or friend of the mission, your contribution helps move this community forward.
You choose where your gift makes an impact:
💠 Annual Fund – supporting operations, outreach, and the backbone of our work
🎓 Scholarships – creating access for students and emerging nurse leaders
🌍 Global Programs – deepening HIV nursing education and partnerships around the world
Because when nurses lead, communities thrive. And when ANAC nurses lead, dignity is always at the center.

New webinars on-demand
If you missed the Rural Committee sponsored webinar, “Inserting Doxy-PEP into Sexual Health Practices: A Clinical and Programmatic Review”, on March 27, don’t worry! You can find the recording and slides on our website. The webinar provided a brief clinical review of Doxy-PEP followed by considerations for implementing Doxy-PEP in HIV PrEP or sexual health care. Outcomes of a successful telehealth Doxy-PEP program were also shared with lessons learned to improve your own prevention practices.
While you’re on our website, also check out another great webinar,” Navigating Long-Term Care and Planning for the Future: A Guide for Older Adults Living with HIV” from April 8. The webinar offered valuable insights and practical advice to ensure the health, financial security and legacy of older adults living with HIV are well planned. Healthcare professionals working with an aging population will find the information beneficial as well.

U=U evidence impacts HIV Criminalization trial
In a recent trial in a district court in a western state that included felony charges for HIV exposure, evidence about the science behind the U=U campaign, national and global endorsement of the science and the individual and community impact of its implementation was allowed as evidence by the court and presented to the jury by ANAC Executive Director, Carole Treston.
The 2024 HIV exposure charges stemmed from a consensual sexual encounter with a person who had an undetectable viral load for more than 3 years and with, of course, no transmission. The jury was unable to reach a verdict (4 not guilty/8 guilty). Progress includes not only the jury finding, but also that U=U was admitted in court as evidence.
Why Medicaid Matters to Nurses?
Medicaid provides health care coverage for 72 million Americans enrolled in 2024. Nearly 60 percent of the nation’s children received their health insurance through Medicaid or CHIP, which extends Medicaid benefits to children of low-income families who make too much money to qualify for the traditional Medicaid program.
The Trump Administration’s proposed budget with cuts to Medicaid and other programs are to make permanent Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, which largely benefited corporations and the wealthy and are set to expire at the end of this year.
Nurses must advocate to protect Medicaid. These cuts will hurt patients, families and communities. Medicaid accounts for approximately 20% of hospital revenue nationwide, even more in low-income and rural communities, and is the primary payer for long-term care facilities. Budget cuts will lead to job losses, facility closing and place an increased burden on already existing workplace challenges.
ANAC is an Organizational Affiliate of the American Nurses Association and joins ANA and others in the national effort to #SaveMedicaid. For more information on Medicaid and how it works, check out Why Medicaid Matters and Understanding Medicaid and CHIP: A Comprehensive Overview.
Help protect Medicaid by telling your legislators to protect Medicaid, as well as sharing your Medicaid story with ANA.
