Board of Director at-large elections for the 2025-2027 term were open Sept. 6-Sept. 19, 2024. Eligible ANAC members received an e-ballot and results will be available after Monday Sept. 23. This is the first BOD election that global members were eligible to vote since the bylaws change in 2023.

Nurses have a voice at PACHA

Executive Director Carole Treston is an appointed member of the President’s Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA), which convened twice during the summer. In June during committee discussions with NIH leadership she highlighted the importance of nurse-led research, in both design and implementation. ANAC members Brenice Duroseau and Nina Sublette made important public commentary on the impact of HIV to Black women and in HIV prevention in the South. In August, during PACHA sessions on PEPFAR and bi-directional learning to advance HIV successes, Carole raised the need to better promote the value of U=U in individual and community discussions.

HRSA announces change to Ryan White funding

HRSA’s HIV/AIDS Bureau announced that Ryan White program funds could be used for rental deposits, a move that could help thousands of people living with HIV secure stable housing. The Technical Assistance (TA) Center at the National HIV/AIDS Housing Coalition provides information on this change and information on housing options for those living with HIV.

Ryan White CARE Act turned 34 last month

On August 18, 1990, by wide bipartisan margins, both houses of Congress passed the groundbreaking Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act, named for an Indiana teen who lost his life to AIDS. By the time the bill became law, more than 150,000 U.S. AIDS cases had been reported in the United States and more than 100,000 people had died. View the living history of the CARE Act.

CDC funding for PrEP

This summer, the CDC announced seven million dollars in funding for four U.S. jurisdictions with a high prevalence of HIV to offer easily accessible and free PrEP. This followed an earlier decision by HHS that ended new enrollments in the Ready, Set, PrEP program. Current enrollees in the program can continue to fill their oral PrEP prescriptions at no cost. We note this live webinar was held at 2 a.m. ET (9 a.m. Kenya, 12 p.m. Australia, 2 p.m Philippines), a decision made by the Global Committee, that reflects ANAC’s commitment to make event times more equitable globally.

In July, ANAC members & staff brought important nurse-focused discussions and perspectives to AIDS 2024, the International AIDS Conference in Munich, Germany. We hosted a Nursing Networking Zone and organized interactive dialogue sessions with nurses and other attendees from across the globe.

We posed two questions to attendees:
