#SaveMedicaid
ANAC joined the American Nurses Association (ANA) and other nursing organization affiliates of ANA to sign-on to a letter urging Congress to preserve the Medicaid program. The threat of Medicaid cuts are part of the Administration's efforts to generate an exorbitant amount of savings to offset the cost of extending tax cuts that are slated to expire at the end of this fiscal year (Sept. 30, 2025). Across the nursing profession, we all know that potential Medicaid cuts and/or reforms will catastrophically impact vulnerable patients’ access to timely, high-quality care, regardless of disease or condition and in every community.

PEPFAR
For more than two decades, the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has been a global health success story, credited with saving more than 26 million lives and providing HIV treatment for more than 20 million people.
On March 25, 2025, PEPFAR's congressional reauthorization expired, raising key questions about its future. An authorization is a congressional approval or statutory provision (law) that defines the authority of the government to act. It can establish or continue a federal agency or program and the policies and restrictions of such. The expiration of PEPFAR authorization introduces deep uncertainty about its long-term future, meaning that officials could now terminate or significantly curtail PEPFAR at any time.
Friend of ANAC, Jirair Ratevosian, DrPH, MPH, writes in Think Public Health on the dangers of PEPFAR not being reauthorized. He is a former chief of staff for PEPFAR and is an associate research scientist at Yale University School of Nursing.
