ANAC Town Hall
Last week more than 30 ANAC members gathered for a meaningful and timely member-only virtual town hall, hosted by the Membership & Policy Committees.
Open to all ANAC members, discussions centered on the challenges and opportunities facing our community, particularly the impact of recent funding cuts and threats and Executive Orders. Members shared their concerns about losing critical funding, while others highlighted strategies for sustainability. A strong theme throughout the conversation was mutual support - emphasizing the importance of uplifting one another, especially nurses and professionals in the HIV field, during these uncertain times. Thank you to all who attended and contributed to this vital virtual conversation.
Keep an eye on your inbox for the next session!

Supreme Court decision
On June 27 the U.S. Supreme Court issued its decision in the Kennedy v. Braidwood case. The Court ruled that the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) is a constitutionally appointed body. This ruling allows for many preventive services, including PrEP, STI testing, mental health and cancer screenings to remain available without cost sharing. However, the Court also noted that the Secretary of HHS has the right to appoint and remove USPTF members and review and block Task Force recommendations; concerning, considering the recent actions by the HHS Secretary in firing the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACCIP).

Chapter advocacy
Your chapter can engage in advocacy work that aligns with the national advocacy agenda!
Nurses have an influential and powerful voice as public policy advocates. ANAC encourages our chapter members to engage in local, state and national advocacy efforts.
All advocacy efforts should align with the ANAC policy agenda and our four pillars.
| | |
Advocacy efforts can take the form of:
- Letters (sign-on letters, letters to editor, etc.)
- Coalitions (chapters or individual members can join local and regional coalitions)
- Written and verbal testimony (school board, county commission, city council, state legislature, etc.)
- Meetings and marches
Always state that you are a nurse! If you have question about how to get involved, please contact Carole Treston.
