It's that wonderful time of year again when we come together to recognize the incredible volunteers who make a difference in our community!

 

We invite you to join us in celebrating the outstanding contributions of your members and their family members. Do you know a member whose commitment shines brightly? A family member who goes above and beyond? Now is the perfect opportunity to honour them!

 

***Award Opportunities***

Dylan Stork Youth Ambassador Award pays tribute to a youth, individual, or group who has expanded the boundaries of Blackfalds with their positive attitude and outstanding contributions, played a role within the community and have made an impact or difference.

Leaders of Tomorrow Awards (Elementary, Junior High, High School category) acknowledges youth attending school between grades 1-12 who exhibits dedication in any field of volunteer work including school, community, athletics or fine arts.

Outstanding Group Award (youth or adult category) recognizes a group of 3 or more people, an organization, society, or team that identifies opportunities for improvement; leads through their actions; the work they do has a significant impact on the community; demonstrates a strong commitment to the community and inspires volunteerism in others.

Gary Kroetsch Volun-Told Award (New this year) honours an individual who selflessly gives their time without seeking recognition or reward. This award acknowledges those who are consistently reliable & hardworking even when they are called upon to volunteer without the option of saying no.

Carol Simpson Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes an individual in the community who exemplifies volunteerism by being a leader through their actions, shows extreme dedication, demonstrates the spirit of community service and inspires volunteerism in others.

Gloria House Mentor Award acknowledges an outstanding mentor in our community who demonstrates a commitment to mentoring while providing guidance and constructive feedback, being a positive role model and taking a personal interest in the mentoring relationship.

Join our team as a Volunteer!

To get started, please complete the Volunteer Application Form and undergo a Criminal Record Check (for volunteers 18 years and older). These steps are essential for the screening process. Additionally, volunteers are requested to reconfirm their interest in volunteering for the Town of Blackfalds every 24 months.

Volunteer Now ~ Snow Angel Program

Winterfest ~ February 17

Volunteers are needed on the ice to ensure everyone is being safe and having fun!


Monday, February 17

Location: Eagle Builders Centre | Arena 1

Time Commitment: 12:00 - 2:00 PM

Requirements: Must have their own CSA hockey helmet, and ice skates, be 17+ years of age or older, able to skate, ability to give clear instructions.

Equipment Provided: safety vest or identifying clothing

Heart of Blackfalds Society

The Heart of Blackfalds Society's mission ~ To promote kindness and love through thoughtful action within the community. Through a culture of compassion and respect, we spark positive change.

LOVE LOCKS



The permanent steel heart offers residents and visitors the chance to attach a lock in honour of a loved one, a pet, or a treasured memory!


How it works:

  1. Scan or click on QR Code to enter information to order your Love Lock, which includes heart, lock & metal ring. $15 each ($20 each with engraving) All proceeds go towards supporting the Heart of Blackfalds Society
  2. Once form has been submitted you will receive an invoice from the Treasurer.
  3. Submit payment by E-transfer
  4. When payment has been received, a receipt will be emailed to both you and to the Abbey Centre. You will then be able to pick up your Heart & Lock at Guest Services.
  5. You can write or engrave a message/name of your choosing on the metal heart at your leisure.
  6. Once complete please attach to the Interactive Heart Display located outside the Abbey Centre.

2025 Pink Shirt Day

Join us February 26, 2025 as we raise awareness about the prevention of bullying while promoting kindness and inclusion.


We are encouraging everyone to wear a Pink Shirt on February 26th to symbolize that we, the Town of Blackfalds, do not tolerate bullying.

Drive Happiness - Volunteers Needed

What are the Volunteer duties or responsibilities?

Drive Happiness volunteers use their own vehicle to help seniors in their community get to important places such as medical appointments, the grocery store, and community programs. It is a fun and flexible position, with no minimum hours or time commitment. You choose where, when and how often you drive. You also receive a fuel reimbursement.

Most importantly, you are helping seniors to remain in their homes and community, close to loved ones, while still being able to access the increasing medical care they need. You will also help them remain independent to go grocery shopping and attend community programs and stay connected. Our volunteers share that it's a very rewarding experience to meet friendly and appreciative seniors.


Education/Knowledge Required

- Class 5 Driver's License

- Drivers must own a clean, well-maintained vehicle

- Proof of registration & insurance

- Clean driver's abstract for the last 3 years

- Vulnerable sector police check

- We will guide you through the process, step by step.

Time commitment required

These positions are completely flexible! We have an online system where you pick your own days and hours that work for you. No minimum time commitment!

  • Canadian Red Cross is seeking volunteers for their Emergency Management program. While based in Red Deer, Volunteers in this program will respond to small-scale disasters across Central Alberta and large-scale disasters across the province, and the country. Volunteers are asked to consider that immediate deployments are unlikely and on-going training is key to being prepared to respond when and if the volunteer is available to do so. Please apply online.
