Volunteer Newsletter
March 2019

Another successful Winterfest event is in the books which not only provided families a day to celebrate families and gather together for fun filled activities but also allowed us to once again demonstrate the hardiness that we as Canadians are known for. The toques, scarves and mittens were on and everyone had fun and all thanks to the numerous staff and volunteers who put the effort in to making Winterfest another success. It takes many people to run a successful event and our staff, volunteers and Community as a whole certainly knows how to get it done as can be attested by the tremendous attendance seen once again this year.
Thanks to our volunteer organizations including the Blackfalds Fire Fighters Association for serving hot dogs and chips, the Blackfalds Scouts for manning the fire pits, DIDS for hosting the pancake breakfast and family free skate and to Dads Day Off & Blackfalds Youth Crew for the Family Game event. A special mention to Council for helping keep residents warm in the frigid temperatures by serving hot chocolate. And yes what can you say about the dippers………. There is no way I would have gotten out of the hot tub to go back into the cold pool for a photo, wow! All these events and more also provided much needed funds for the many charities in our Community.
Great job everyone!

Myron Thompson, Chief Administrative Officer

Snow Angel Program ~ Winter Season

The Snow Angel Program is a volunteer program that supports Blackfalds residents who require assistance to clear their snowy driveway and/or walkway.

"Adopting" a drive/walkway is a fun and healthy way for all ages to be good neighbours, while contributing to improving the quality of life of others in the community. Those needing assistance can contact the Volunteer Programmer to be matched with a Snow Angel.

As a Snow Angel you are committed to the same resident throughout the season and may adopt more than one resident if desired. Volunteers who have been matched will receive a toque & collapsible shovel at the beginning of the season, which has been generously donated by Telus.
