Volunteering offers vital assistance to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, therefore transforming both the lives of the people who volunteer and those who benefit.

As part of the volunteer recruitment process, we require your Volunteer Application form on file and a Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Checks to be conducted as part of the screening process. As this is a requirement through the Town, there will be no charge to you. Emergency Preparedness Workshop ~ May 8
Emergency Preparedness Week is an opportunity to encourage Canadians to take concrete actions to be better prepared to protect themselves and their families during emergencies. This year’s theme is “Be Emergency Ready”.

You're invited to join us to learn what to do in the event of a disaster by attending the Emergency Preparedness Workshop put on by the Canadian Red Cross .

Mother's Day Tea ~ Has Been Cancelled
We regret to inform you that due to the lack of interest this year, the Mother's Day Tea event has been cancelled. Those few who did purchase their tickets may receive their refund at Guest Services located at the Abbey Centre. Thank you to those who signed up to volunteer, your support is appreciated!

Youth Bike Rodeo ~ June 5
Below is a list of volunteer opportunities for the day of the Bike Rodeo:

Below is a list of volunteer opportunities during Blackfalds Days:

Youth Night Out  Friday, June 14th
5:30-9:30pm – Multi-Plex Arena. Help committee with supervising inflatables, eating contest (This event is for youth Gr 4-12)
Town Councillors’ Pancake Breakfast 
Saturday, June 15 th  – Community Centre 
8:00-10:30am – Help clear tables and clean up.
Kidz Zone  Saturday, June 15 th  – Multi-Plex Arena
11:30am-2:00pm or 2:00-4:30pm – Help committee at inflatables, Virtual Reality Trailer, Mascots and clean up
Blackfalds Got Talent Saturday, June 15 th – The Abbey Centre Amphitheatre
4:00Pm – 7:00PM – Help check in contestants, stage set up/change over
Party in the Park  Sunday, June 16 th  – Centennial Park 11:30am-3:00pm – Help set up, run the BBQ, inflatables, carnival games etc.
Super Kids Triathlon ~ July 6
Sign up to volunteer at the Abbey Centre Super Kids Triathlon

Volunteers do everything from registration, helping on the pool deck, assisting in the transition area to directing traffic on the course. 

Race Site Set Up  (5:30-7:30am) – Help assist the Committee and set up as needed for the triathlon

Registration Table/Race Kit Pick Up  (7:30-9:30am) – Check in athletes, hand out race kits and body marking.

Swim Area  (8:15am – approximately 11:00am) – Assist athletes who require a life jacket, alert swimmers when they have completed the required amount of laps, and may be required to assist them out of the pool
Transition Area  (7:30am – approximately 1:00pm) – Prior to race: Assist parents/athletes with bikes, directions, etc.  During the race: Keep athletes on track and keep parents out of transition

Bike Area  (8:30am – approximately 1:00pm) – Direct athletes on course, control traffic, and alert bikers when they have completed the required amount of laps

Run Area  (8:45am – approximately 1:00pm) – Direct athletes on course, control traffic, and alert runners when they have completed the required amount of laps
Other Volunteer Opportunities
  • Parents of Iron Ridge Intermediate Society (PIRIS) is a Volunteer Parent Board of Directors which help coordinate school efforts which go towards things such as fundraising, hot lunch program and supplemental funding. Is your little one just heading into grade 4? New to the Iron Ridge Intermediate Campus (IRIC)? Want to be more involved? Join us - May 27th @ IRIC Library 7pm.

  • Block Parent is a non-profit organization and being a board member is really easy. We meet when we can (a few times a year) and we try to put on one fundraiser a year. Previously, we have run a BBQ in partnership with FCSS. As well, we try to attend at least one market/fair to talk about the program & getting more Block Parent homes signed up.   • The Blackfalds Public Library is looking for Junior Volunteers, Senior Volunteers and Friends of the Library Volunteers. Come and see us if you are interested in volunteering in our program room, or help us fund raise with our Friends group. 

  • Central Alberta Victim & Witness Support invites you to accept the challenge of helping others in your community and to make a difference in the lives of victims/witnesses of crime and tragedy. Call 403-885-3355 to learn more about becoming a Victim Services volunteer crisis advocate, a Member of the Board or an event volunteer for the victim services program at the Blackfalds RCMP Detachment. Alternatively check our website at www.victimsupport.ca for volunteer application forms and check us out on Facebook.

  • Want to better prepare your family for emergencies? Do you have an interest in helping communities become more resilient to disasters? If so, consider volunteering with Canadian Red Cross Emergency Management Program. We are currently seeking Disaster Assistance volunteers to work in both mitigation and disaster response. All training is provided. Local volunteer hours vary based on need; National deployments available for those with 10-21 days consecutive availability. Apply online redcross.ca/volunteer
