A Note from our Executive Director

Dear friend,

It’s back to school, but the learning never stops at IVYP. Learning and growing is part of our culture. Here’s what we learned this month: Students learned about their new teachers and classrooms. Three teaching assistants began taking Spanish language child development classes, placing them on their way to becoming fully qualified teachers! Our FRC staff participating in a two-day class on Living the Protective Factors. This training deepens their work strengthening families. Our entire staff participated in an active shooter training. Each one of us is learning how best to protect our students and ourselves.

The new school year is also a time of transition. We say goodbye to our graduating students and hello to new babies. This month, we are also saying goodbye to our Children’s Center Director, Erika Maldonado. Erika is leaving IVYP for a new opportunity at SBUSD. We are so proud of her growing her career. With that, I’m very excited to announce our new Children’s Center Director, Serineh Vartani. Serineh has been our Assistant Director and she is ready to step into the Director role.

I wish all of you an easy transition from summer slow down to fall frenzy. Thank you for your support.

Deckers Day of Kindness

We had a wonderful team of volunteers from the Deckers Brands come to our Children's Center and Family Resource Center in honor of Deckers Global Art of Kindness Week. They helped us package 100s of diapers, organize storage sheds, build furniture, and organize a classroom. The volunteers left with smiles on their faces and excitement in their eyes as they realized how much we appreciate their help. Thank you to everyone at Deckers Brands for helping local families receive the resources they need.

Staff Spotlight - Elizabeth Hahn

"What I’ve always loved about development is the opportunity I have to tell stories. Through my role I’ve been given the honor and responsibility of listening to the experiences of the children and families we serve and sharing that with the community. It’s a privilege to see first-hand the impact that IVYP has on a family and then being trusted by them to put that story out into the world."

Harvest of the Month

Each month we share a healthy, easy and affordable recipe to try that highlights ingredients you can get at our food distribution and weekly farm stand. This month we are highlighting tomatoes! Summer is tomato season which we love. Tomatoes are high in Vitamin C, folate, and fiber. We love this fresh and easy tomato salad because it highlights the incredible natural flavor of the tomato.

IVYP needs your support as we work hard to support our community in the wake of COVID-19. We’ve stepped up and we need your help to continue. Please consider a donation to IVYP’s COVID-19 Response Fund to help us continue to provide the caring, proactive and flexible support our community needs.
Be a diaper champion by sponsoring the cost of diapers for local families. Diapers are one of the most consistent requests from our families at our FRC. Disposable diapers can cost as much as $100 per month per baby so every contribution makes a big difference.
