With Guido Basso's passing, Canada loses a legend
Guido Basso, the masterful musician who was a distinguished pillar of Canada’s jazz scene, has died at 85.

Basso was a champion of big band music, leading a variety of jazz orchestras throughout a career of more than 65 years.

Catherine Russell released a new single in celebration of Black History Month, with proceeds benefitting the Jazz Foundation of America.

She sings “I Want to Talk About You,” a song by the famed vocalist and orchestra leader Billy Eckstine.

Vocalist and composer Somi is among six new recipients of the Doris Duke Artist Award.

Established in 2012, the Doris Duke Artist Award is the largest prize in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to supporting individual performing artists.

Michael Kaeshammer announces new studio album
Michael Kaeshammer is set to release his 15th studio album Turn It Up.

Described as an “eclectic yet accessible” jazz-based pop album, it features eight original songs plus a cover of Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”

Musical instruments donated to Toronto school
A total of 130 musical instruments donated by JAZZ.FM91 listeners have found a new home with the Africentric Alternative School in North York.

The delivery last week wrapped up the 10th year of JAZZ.FM91’s annual Holiday Heroes Instrument Drive.
