According to
Dick Spotswood's Marin IJ column,
casino-lovin' Darius Anderson "founder of the big-time lobbying firm Platinum Advisors, is considering a run for the new state Assembly district composed of Marin and Southern Sonoma. ..With substantial personal wealth and unlimited campaign-funding contacts, Anderson should have no problem gathering the financial resources necessary to make him a first-tiered candidate in this solidly Democratic district."
UH, WAIT A MINUTE! Darius Anderson wants to run for
our Assembly seat? Good luck!
Just in case Marin County has forgotten, Anderson was instrumental in bringing a Station Casinos project to its doorstep in 2003. He played an integral part in
the scandal surrounding the restoration of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria and its attempt to build a casino near Highway 37.
And, he is arguably the most hated man in Southern Sonoma
County.
Anderson is still involved with Station Casinos. His lobbying firm,
Platinum Advisors, represents Station Casinos in Sacramento in the company's efforts to build three large Las Vegas-style casinos on major highways near California cities and towns, including ours here in Rohnert Park.
That's right: he works hard to make the casino a reality.
Jared Huffman got strong support in this area for his environmental position and his position on the Rohnert Park casino, which
is an environmental disaster in the making.
The casino would mean thousands more cars on 101 through Marin and Sonoma counties, it will create more air pollution, and it threatens the water supply of both counties
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Anderson will suffer in local polls because of his affiliation with the company that wants to bring gambling to our town by building a non-conforming development on sensitive vernal wetlands that is habitat to a highly-endangered species and is the last remaining coastal grasslands next to Highway 101.
Anderson would be a bad bet for the community and for
the environment.
