All are Welcome to Attend Christian Education classes:
ICONS: Windows to Heaven or Idolatry?”
September 8, 15 and 22 after both services
In this class we will explore the history and purpose of icons, how the church has used them in public worship, how to use them in private devotions and how they have been surrounded by mystery and at time superstition. We will take about half of the class to look at different icons specifically and talk about their meaning and theology specifically in Anglican/Episcopal churches.
Reminders and Announcements:
MAHALO to the recent donations of hand soap and ziploc bags.
Itʻs a new month, so the Prayer list will be refreshed . Please submit your prayer requests at pastor@episcopalchurchhilo.org
Whoʻs Ready for Back to School?

Summer may be over, but the fun is just beginning. Join us for our School Supply Drive and Back-to-School Sunday. We'll be collecting school supplies for the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island and Joyland Preschool throughout the month of August. Just bring your donations on Sunday and leave them in the front pew of the church. On August 25 we will be sending students, Sunday School teachers, and everyone back to school and work with a blessing. You won't want to miss it!

10 AM - Back-to-School Sunday & Blessing of the Bags

At this service, we'll commission students and teachers as we send them back to school and work, and we will bless their bags as a sign and seal that the Holy Spirit goes with them.

How can our Holy Apostles Community take steps to be more sustainable and kind to our environment?

August Green Tip:
Zero Waste
Did you know that in nature there is no such thing as "waste"? The by-product of one system is used by another system. Unfortunately only humans have created waste. Zero waste is a way of life that promotes the goal of reducing the amount of material we throw away. Over the last several months we've introduced ways to minimize disposables. Challenge yourself and be creative. Today, look at how much waste you have created, and reduce the amount of material you throw away by one item tomorrow. You can make a difference!
Noonday Prayer is now being held every Wednesday. Join us in the sanctuary.
Sung Evening Prayer will be held the first Wednesday of each month.
Sunday school will resume on August 25th.
Supplies needed: We are in need of regular flavored Spam for our Salvation Army feedings. Drop off at the Parish Office.
