Workplace Wellness in a Virtual World

An Exploration of Technology, Well-Being & Enjoying the Best of Both Worlds

Katy Tombaugh
Founder & CEO
Wellness Collective

It's a fact that technology is rewiring our brains and creating new challenges across the health and wellness landscape. People wrestle with being connected to technology (and networks of people) yet disconnected from true social support. Join us for discovery and discussion related to creating a healthy relationship with technology while maintaining (or establishing) healthier daily rituals within your personal and professional lives.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn more about the current "distraction addiction" caused by daily technology consumption.
  • Uncover ways to engage with (and leverage) current technology while still supporting the four domains of wellness: mind, body, spirit and environment.
  • Consider tactics for incorporating this learning into the daily norms of your workplace, your home or other communities in which you engage.

As founder and CEO of Wellness Collective, Katy contributes over 18 years of leadership and consulting experience to the field of workplace wellness. She is passionate, enthusiastic and creative in her approach to leading organizations toward a culture of wellness. Her work has taken her into Fortune 500 businesses, local organizations, non-profits, and schools where she enjoys consulting and creating curriculum to transform businesses and lives.

Question: How do I identify ergo risk factors for a job?

Answer: Ohio employees complete many work tasks that require manual force which can place them in postures and situations where their bodies are exposed to ergonomic type risk factors. Examples of these can be force, static or awkward posture, bending, vibration or repetition. The BWC has Ergonomists that can help you identify risk factors and learn more about this process. The BWC also has online classes and materials available on the website.
Knowledge Check: This employee is shown dumping a bin. The bin is balanced but requires control to safely tilt over to dump the contents. The contents are metal shaving, but the weight is all the bin, not the shavings.

Choose the work risk factors this employee must deal with?

A) Shoe wear – posture – manual force

B) Awkward posture – gloves – shoe wear

C) Grip point – Awkward posture – Floor surface – manual force

D) Forget it – 2-person job

E) All the above
