This Week at Good Shepherd

Class Sunday! Join us in the Parlor at 9 a.m. for a discussion of "The Seven Last Words" by Father James Martin. Led by Albert Ervin, we will experience the meditations together. (No homework, but if you want, read Mark 15:33-39) This week we will explore the 4th Chapter, "Jesus Understands the Feelings of Abandonment: My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" Do join us!

Children's Chapel this week. Children follow the cross after the Collect. Nursery for the very young among us is available. See a greeter for more information.

Please join us for Coffee Hour after the 10:30 service. Coffee, donuts, and good fellowship in the Parish Hall Foyer. And you know who is welcome? You are!!

Mid-week Eucharist will resume in September.

Hi Good Shepherd!

It’s good to be back in Rocky Mount! It’s been an eventful summer, and it looks to be an eventful year. (In a good way!)

First, some good news: After Sheryl Love Johnson retired in July, we welcome Sarah Katherine Rollings as interim office administrator. Sarah Katherine has been working with St. Andrew’s in Rocky Mount for years, and she’s fabulous. She’ll keep working with them, but she’ll be with us about twelve hours a week, usually onsite in the afternoons. We’re going to see how working with both churches goes this fall, and then make a more final decision. But I’m thrilled to have her. She starts August 11th.

Second, get ready for the program year! Here’s just a quick look at the next few months --

August 24th – Back to School Sunday: Bring your backpacks for blessing, and your Good Shepherd Day School supply donations! Look for a list of needed supplies in a special eShepherd next week.

September 7th – Rally Day! We will share a common service and roll into a great big party. We’ll take a great big Good Shepherd family picture and have a picnic, with games for all ages. We’re on the lookout for folks who can help us identify some unlabeled

pictures we’ve found in the archives, so please be sure to invite anyone and everyone from Good Shepherd’s past to help us fill in our history and look to our future! This is a great day to invite your kids and grandkids, and folks who have moved away. Vibe

is “It’s SO GREAT to see everyone!”

October 5th- St. Francis’ Day Celebration! Bring your pet to church!

And there’s even more to come as we head into November. This fall we’ll also be running a confirmation class (email me!), “Walking the Bible” at 9:00am and we’re retraining all our Sunday morning ministers – these are the people who make Sunday morning run, by preparing the flowers and the altar, reading the lessons, singing in the choir, helping during communion, and greeting friends new and old at the door. If you’ve always wanted to get involved with the service, now is a great time to let me know. Most of these are once a month commitment, and if you ask any of our Sunday morning ministers, you’ll hear a great deal of joy and spirituality in the work that they do.

Because of all the amazingness happening in August and the summer schedule, I’ll be out this weekend (George Greer, who also happens to be Sarah Katherine’s dad will be here) and I’ll be back at church on August 17th. Until then, you know where to find me.

 Enjoy this glorious weather!
