Inflation is creating a crisis for people in poverty.

I write to you to share an urgent need and ask for your help! Inflation is rising faster than it has in 40 years - making necessities like fresh food, electricity, and rent more expensive nationwide. 

People living at or below the poverty line are hit the hardest by inflation because the categories impacted most by price increases consist of everyday essentials, like:
  • Meat, poultry, fish and eggs - 13% increase
  • Fruits and vegetables - 7.6% increase
  • Electricity - 9% increase
  • Rent - 4.2% increase (forbes.com)

While some households can cut back on frivolous spending, or dip into savings to brace against the high price tag of inflation, people experiencing poverty – who have less savings and no room to cut back on spending – are forced to make decisions such as choosing between buying groceries, or paying the electricity bill or rent (washingtonpost.com). 

Help FOCUS North America raise $30,000 in response to the inflation crisis our neighbors in poverty are facing right now. Our centers and programs connect with and serve the needs of people experiencing poverty every day, who are now suffering from rising costs due to inflation. 

Your special gift this Lenten season will help provide people with essentials like food, clothing, laundry, transportation, and hygiene items, and it will increase the tangible impact our network of our local centers have across the country.
