Town of St. Paul, Alberta

Winner

5 Blooms - Silver

Public Art Program

PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, October 19th, 2024 —

The Town of St. Paul is the winner of the Nation Population category. They received a rating of 5 Blooms - Silver and a special mention for Public Art Program during the 2024 National/International Symposium and Awards Ceremonies in the City of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The other finalists in this category were Capreol ON; Devon AB; and North Bay ON.

Over the summer, trained volunteer judges travelled to participating communities to evaluate the overall contributions of municipal council and departments; industry; businesses and the private sector – including volunteer efforts – regarding the following criteria: Community Appearance, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Tree Management, Landscape and Plant & Floral Displays.

Following their evaluation, volunteer judges Colleen Stockford and Christine Isaac wrote: “The St. Paul public art program, managed by Champions for Change, receives annual financial support from the Town of St. Paul. The art pieces highlight the town’s history and culture, with a focus on reconciliation and Indigenous education. Local artist Herman Poulin has created many of these beautiful works, and his pride, compassion, and enthusiasm for his "FANTABULOUS" art make him an invaluable resource for the community. An art walk has been established for the public to explore these pieces and gain insight into the significance and meaning behind each work.

Within the actual context of climate changes and environmental concerns, communities involved in the program can be proud of their efforts, which provide real and meaningful environmental solutions and benefit all of society.
