What Do You Deserve?

As a life coach, I’ve had several people come to me because of relationship problems. Most times they speak of being mistreated, or made to feel as if they are worthless. Unless the person is being physically abused, I never tell them to leave. I simply ask two questions. The first question is, “What do you deserve?” There are many different answers, but they all mean the same thing. “I deserve better.” Which leads me to my second question. “If you know you deserve better, then why are you settling?”

You teach people how to treat you by what you allow. If you allow them to mistreat you, then you are telling both them, and yourself, that it’s what you deserve. But how you believe you should be treated doesn’t always fall in alignment with how you allow people to treat you. This doesn’t only apply to romantic relationships. This also goes for relationships with family members, friends, and business associates. The first step in getting what you deserve is recognizing your self-worth.

Recognizing your self-worth can be one of the most difficult steps in the growth process. Past and current traumas, insecurities, and failure can all contribute to us not viewing ourselves in the best light. This can cause us to settle because we don’t feel like we are worthy of anything better. In order to change that mindset, we have to first make the decision to take back the power. We have to regain control of our lives regardless of our

circumstances. It’s time to ask questions, get answers, and make decisions. So let’s start here. Will you allow past and current traumas to dictate your mindset, or will you recognize those traumas as part of your strength and conditioning? Will you allow insecurities to hold you back from achieving the life you deserve, or will you see them as just reminders that you are human and no better than anyone else? Will you allow failure to prevent you from trying, or will you look at it as a lesson in learning how to win? The best part of the growth process is when you realize that the decision to be

great begins and ends with you. No person, nor circumstance, can prevent you from being who you are destined to be. So make the decision to be great, stop settling, and go get what you deserve.
