The Airplane Scarf
Alexandra Dane will be visiting our shop today, Saturday, 4/1, from 2:00-4:00pm. We'll be reminiscing about the first flight of 'Alexandra's Airplane Scarf' and displaying dozens of the scarves we knit since then. Drop by wearing your own Airplane Scarf and you'll receive a wee gift. Or buy the yarn to make one and we'll thrown in the pattern free. (Online as well. Details below.)
 Her Story

This is Alexandra's Airplane Scarf -- weightless, lustrous and positively dreamy in Shibui Silk Cloud -- just one of the four versions we'll show you today.

A Boston local, Alexandra attends a writer's workshop in Seattle every year and visits with her cousin on Bainbridge Island every chance she gets.

On one visit she was wearing a scarf that made us all swoon and she was kind enough to share the deceptively simple design with us (it's all in the finishing!).

As a Churchmouse Classic, 'Alexandra's Airplane Scarf' has fast become many a knitter's favorite traveling companion -- to knit and to wear.

It's just the kind of thing we love -- simple, simple, simple, and all about the color!

Alexandra's own maiden voyage with the scarf was in Rowan Kidsilk Haze  with its spectacular range of captivating shades.

You can style this sheer tube of lace-weight mohair any number of ways.  See more images .
Two More Versions
If you can't wear mohair, consider the Berroco Andean Mist version. The brushed, super-fine baby Suri alpaca is swirled around a mulberry silk core. Equally at home on men and women alike, this version is all about the oh-so-soft!

Another alternative to mohair is the Airplane Scarf in Shibui Pebble. This silk/merino/cashmere blend is the lace-weight tweed for people who need things soft rather than rustic. It says tweed, but feels cashmere. Yum!
Gift with Purchase
On Saturday, if you purchase yarn for any of these four projects, no need to buy the pattern. We'll put one -- beautifully printed by offset press on sturdy #110 card stock -- into your store shopping bag or online shipping box with our compliments.

Here's how the four Alexandra's Airplane Scarf projects break down version by version:

Rowan Kidsilk Haze, 4 skeins, $66
Berroco Andean Mist, 6 skeins, $54
Shibui Silk Cloud, 3 skeins, $76.50
Shibui Pebble, 4 skeins, $78

Order any of these projects on Saturday, 4/1, and we'll include the $6 pattern at no charge.
Our Wish
May your fiber sense be so finely attuned that the right yarn calls out to you at precisely the right time. And if you don't hear anything, stand near your stash and listen -- maybe there's one there that's particularly loquacious.

All the best, from all of us.
