June 2024

WELCOME TO BeHERE NV!

The Behavioral Health Education, Retention, and Expansion Network of Nevada (BeHERE NV) is a new workforce development initiative to increase the number of providers of behavioral health care in Nevada. In 2023, the Nevada Legislature unanimously passed Assembly Bill 37 to create a statewide behavioral health workforce development center within the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). In September 2023, the NSHE Board of Regents designated the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) to serve as the administrative hub for BeHERE NV and to build connections across the state.

MESSAGE FROM DR. SARA HUNT

We hope our June newsletter finds you enjoying the start of summer and staying cool! At BeHERE NV, we are celebrating the opportunities we had this spring to initiate our K-12 outreach and connect with so many partners before the end of the school year. Our workforce retention efforts have kicked off with a listening tour and meetings with Nevada's professional licensing boards and higher education academic programs to better understand the path from graduation to professional practice. Additionally, June started off with an amazing opportunity for our team to travel to Nebraska to meet with the staff of the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska. We learned so much and enjoyed our time in Omaha! Grab a cold drink and read on to learn about some federal student loan repayment programs and the new Nevada Opioid Center of Excellence. Cheers!

BeHERE NV TRIP TO OMAHA, NEBRASKA

Behavioral Health Education, Retention, & Expansion Network of Nevada team

BeHERE NV recently had the privilege of visiting Omaha, NE, where we had the opportunity to connect with the dedicated team at the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska, (BHECN). Our time spent with the team provided valuable insights into the impactful work being done at BHECN. One valuable insight we gained was the importance of relationships. We learned that they form the foundation for success. Relationships not only create bonds but also provide opportunities to grow and learn from one another.

Established in 2009 through the enactment of LB 603 by the Nebraska Legislature, BHECN is committed to enhancing the recruitment, retention, and competency of the behavioral health workforce in the state. Through collaborative efforts with partners, active engagement with stakeholders, resource identification, and inclusion of consumers and their families, BHECN is actively shaping the landscape of behavioral health workforce development in Nebraska.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the BECHN team who have generously offered their support and valuable insights to enhance our team. The warm embrace of Nebraska will always hold a special place in the hearts of the BeHERE NV team. The future is looking exceptionally promising, and we are absolutely thrilled to maintain our partnership with BHECN. We are eager to further collaborate and work together towards our shared goals, creating a positive impact and achieving great success.

Upward Bound at University of Nevada Reno, Reno, NV

BeHERE NV had the privilege of participating in a career fair at Silver Stage High School in Silver Springs, NV, and conducting workshops on Healthy Relationships at Reed High School in Sparks, NV, and Upward Bound at UNR. During the workshop, students were able to concentrate on vital skills and information necessary for fostering healthy relationships and establishing boundaries in both personal and professional environments. Furthermore, students had the chance to explore different career paths within the behavioral health sector, uncovering avenues to contribute significantly to mental health and overall well-being. We were truly appreciative of both experiences and the chance to empower students with valuable insights and guidance.
