Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, people everywhere have shown that they will step up and do the right thing in a crisis. Unfortunately, times like these also reveal that scammers don’t take any breaks. In fact, times of crisis are fuel to a scammers’ fire. Howard County has received its share of the CARES Act funding, nearly $57 million ($56,830,393), from the State of Maryland. As a jurisdiction with a population under 500,000, Howard County was required to submit detailed applications documenting how grant funding is projected to be spent and execute a grant agreement with the State. Gov. Larry Hogan released an op-ed in  The  New York Times   making the case for why states need disaster relief to protect essential services and the economic recovery. As chair of the nation’s governors, Hogan has been leading the fight to secure critical emergency relief for states, as well as a national plan to put Americans back to work by fixing crumbling infrastructure.
