4th Sunday after Epiphany

Who are the blessed ones of God? For Micah, they are those who do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God. For Paul, they are the ones who find wisdom in the weakness of the cross. For Jesus, they are the poor, the meek, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, those who mourn, and those who hunger for righteousness. In baptism we find our blessed identity and calling in this countercultural way of living and serving.

The scripture readings for this week include:

AdventELC's theme for the year is: Seeing Christ Clearly in 2020. We look to direct our attention and energy in two ways: seeing Christ clearly personally and showing Christ clearly to the world.
One of the ways to see Christ clearly is through relationships. Specifically friends.
As we go through different stages of life—entering college, changing jobs, or just growing busy from changing responsibilities—we sometimes lose touch with old friends. Though it is normal for friendships to change with time, we don’t have to give up on a relationship simply because we are in a different stage of life.
Is there a friend you’ve been meaning to check up on? Someone you have been thinking about for a while now but haven’t talked to recently?
As you think about rekindling those relationships, here are a few things to consider.

Souper Bowl Sunday First Sunday Fellowship
The Parish Life team is asking you to bring "tailgate foods" for the First Sunday Fellowship between the services. More information to come. See Susan Phillips for more information.

Pastor Aaron and the Social Concerns Team cannot thank you enough for the congregation-wide support of this ministry. You are showing the love of Jesus to our neighbors in a real, tangible way.

With this last week's push to go you have already given 484 items and $1,908.82 in monetary donations! That's over $7,600 in buying power that you have given to LSS Food Pantries .

Can we get over 500 items and $2,000 in donations to put an exclamation point on our tackle on hunge r? Help make that happen!

Pastor Aaron and AdventELC featured to church leaders
This past week two major events were happening in Columbus: The All Ohio Synods Rostered Leaders Gathering and the ELCA Communicators Gathering.
Pastor Aaron was a guest speaker to Synod and Churchwide Communication specialists on the use of Social Media in the church.
At the Rostered Leaders Gathering, all three Ohio Synods came together for Bible Study and lectures focused on Evangelism. We looked at models from the Bible, particularly from the Book of Acts, and models being used today. AdventELC was noted twice for our efforts with Free Prayer and Drive-Up Ashes.

Let us pray together:
Almighty God, giver of life and love, bless Adam and Kelly Finch and their newborn child Emma. Thank you for the love and care that Emma is getting from the hospital staff, family, friends, and family of faith at AdventELC. Please bless Emma and hold her in your love. Make her well and fill her with your peace; in Jesus' name. Amen.
