Umbrella Sky Public Art Exhibit is a Hit!

The whimsical Umbrella Sky public art installation on Giralda Plaza is a hit on social media. If you haven't seen it already, we invite you to take a stroll through Downtown Coral Gables. Take a selfie under the colorful umbrellas using the hashtag #UmbrellaSky. The exhibit is made possible through a partnership between the City, the Coral Gables Community Foundation and the  Business Improvement District of Coral Gables. Watch the video here.

Upcoming Construction on Salzedo Street & Alcazar Avenue

Construction alert: Beginning in mid-August, there will be temporary lane closures on Salzedo Street (between Alcazar Avenue & Minorca Avenue) and Alcazar Avenue (between Salzedo Street & Ponce de Leon Blvd.)  As part of the improvements necessary prior to starting  construction of the new Public Safety Building , an existing sanitary sewer line that runs through the property needs to be relocated. Climbing to the Top for a Good Cause

Coral Gables Firefighter-Engineer Carlos Eguiluz and Firefighter Samantha Putz put their skills to the test at the fourth annual New York City Memorial Stair Climb. Both firefighters climbed the 80 floors of the third World Trade Center Tower in honor of the 343 New York firefighters who were killed on the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. Eguiluz and Putz completed the task wearing their full gear and air tanks, which added 80 pounds of weight to their 80-story climb. Firefighter Putz finished among the top 10 competing females, completing the climb in just 38 minutes.
CGPD Honored with 1st Place in Traffic Safety Challenge

The Coral Gables Police Department has won the overall Statewide Traffic Safety Award in the Champions Category - competing with all Florida agencies, not just agencies of our size.  The Florida Law Enforcement Liaison Traffic Safety Challenge recognizes the best overall traffic safety programs in Florida. Coral Gables was recognized for enforcing traffic safety laws and educating the public about distracted and impaired driving, as well as the importance of motorcycle safety, occupant protection and child passenger safety, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and other issues that impact the safety of all roadway users.

FDOT is scheduled to begin roadway and crosswalk construction along Bird Road from SW 38 Court to US1/Dixie Highway. Work will be done on stages to minimize impact to traffic. Project is estimated to last until December 2018. Lane closures may occur during non-peak hours. Please allow extra time to reach your destination while traveling through this area.
