Clinical quality performance and improvement report released
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) recently released the Clinical Quality Initiative (CLQI) score card for Medicare Advantage (MA) PPO claims data through Dec. 31, 2020.

The MA PPO overall scores are based on performance (70%) and year over year improvement (30%). The clinical quality incentive for 2021 dates of service are based on the overall scores and the percent of total compliant members in the MA PPO population.

The Physician Alliance performance scores and ranking among Michigan physician organizations participating in BCBSM's Physician Group Incentive Program include:

  • Overall performance score of 4.60, ranking 5 out of 40
  • Improvement score of 3.56, ranking 14 out of 40
  • Overall PO ranking for MA PPO is 4.29 or 10 out of 40

TPA also scored 4- and 5-star ratings in all measures except controlling high blood pressure. Some of these measures include breast cancer screening, colorectal cancer screening, comprehensive diabetes care and statin therapy for patients with cardiovascular disease.
 
When BCBSM first started scoring and ranking PGIP physician organizations, TPA's overall score was less than 3. This improvement highlights the partnership that TPA has with its providers to assist practices in closing gaps, as well as the continued commitment and hard work of physicians and practice staff in improving patient care. Congratulations to our practices!
Diabetic eye exam is important patient care, quality metric
Diabetes is the leading cause of vision loss in people 18–64 years old, according to the American Diabetes Association. The great news is an annual routine eye exam could prevent 95% of vision loss caused by diabetes.

Encouraging routine eye exams in patients with diabetes can help prevent eye damage or vision loss (this is also an important quality metric for providers). Educate diabetic patients on the warning signs of diabetic eye disease, such as blurred vision, dark spots, flashes of light, and increased amount of floaters.
