Terra Nova opens tonight

Chris Benham, lead actor in Pentacle's production of Terra Nova.

Dear Lisa,

Terra Nova, the award-winning play written by Ted Tally and directed by Scott Ramp, returns to the Pentacle Theatre stage for three special performances Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Pentacle first staged Terra Nova last July, but the production was cut short when lead actor Chris Benham had emergency eye surgery.

Benham has recovered and he and the other members of Pentacle’s original cast will return to play the final three performances canceled last June. “I am very excited to come back to the tale of Captain Scott and his tragic team of explorers,” Benham said.

“While the parallel of last year’s run of Terra Nova coming to a premature end so close to closing night is not lost on me, the cast, crew and I are glad to have the opportunity to tell this powerful story one more time,” said Benham.

This limited run of Terra Nova is underwritten by our friends at Highway 99 restaurant in Brooks. Their generosity means all proceeds will go directly to the theater.

Shrek The Musical opens March 3

He’s big, green, grumpy and just wants to be left alone in his swamp, but when trouble comes to the Kingdom of Duloc, Shrek the ogre reluctantly answers the call.

Shrek The Musical, based on the popular DreamWorks movie, comes to Pentacle Theatre March 3-25. It features a cast of 33 and is directed by Robert Salberg.

Shrek fans will love this musical version of the story more than the films it’s based on,” said Salberg.

“There’s the DreamWorks films and there’s the live Netflix musical, but this updated version includes massive changes and improvements,” he said.

“For a contemporary musical, where context is everything, there are a lot of songs you will leave the theater singing,” said Salberg. “The music enhances the story. There are great melodies, toe-tapping rhythms, brilliant word play, plus everybody’s favorite ending number from the original film, I’m a Believer, by The Monkees.”
