Greetings!

Ben Johnson, William Shakespeare's friend and fellow writer, described Shakespeare as "not of an age, but for all time!" in the preface to the first folio.

Shakespeare's works continue to reveal the faces of each generation, and that's why a 400-year-old play belongs on our stage.

Pentacle Theatre’s second show of its 2022 season, Twelfth Night, by William Shakespeare, directed by Isaac Joyce-Shaw, opens April 22.

Twelfth Night is Shakespeare’s classic story of love, lust, mistaken identity, gender exploration and la dolce vita. When Viola is shipwrecked on the coast of a city called Illyria, and believes their brother Sebastian is lost at sea, Viola sets out to make a life for themself in this new land. Presenting as a young man, Viola takes the name Cesario. Viola/Cesario takes a job at the court of Duke Orsino, and quickly finds themself in the middle of a love triangle between the Duke and the Lady Olivia.

In a comic subplot, several characters conspire to make Olivia’s pompous steward, Malvolio, believe that Olivia has fallen for him. This involves Olivia’s riotous uncle, Sir Toby Belch, a silly squire named Sir Andrew Aguecheek, Olivia’s servants Maria and Fabian, and a witty fool, Feste.

Sponsored by The Family of Alice Mary Norton.

All seats $25. Frontline healthcare workers and people who hold an Oregon Trail Card are eligible for a 50 percent discount.

About the show
In the winter of 1911-1912, five Englishmen and five Norwegians raced each other to the bottom of the Earth. Only the Norwegians returned. This is the story of the Englishmen.

Terra Nova is a fascinating and hauntingly beautiful play about the ill-fated British Antarctic Expedition, led by Capt. Robert Falcon Scott. Written by Ted Tally, Academy Award winning screenwriter for “Silence of the Lambs,” Terra Nova is based on historical facts and the diaries, notes and film found with the bodies of the final three members of the Scott Expedition. Tally deftly weaves together the struggles of the five British men on their harrowing journey to the South Pole, together with Capt. Scott’s imaginary interactions with his vibrant wife, Kathleen, and the enigmatic man who raced him to the pole, Norwegian Roald Amundsen. The stark beauty of the Antarctic setting combined with poetic writing and the gritty drama of the true story makes Terra Nova a compelling and moving evening of theatre.
Pentacle Theatre affirms, promotes and celebrates the participation of all, without regard to race, color, sex, disability, affectional or sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, national origin, age, religion or socioeconomic status.
A quick reminder about 2023 season selection
The Script Reading Committee has been working hard reading scripts for the Pentacle 2023 Season. The deadline to submit titles to the SRC is April 30.

We look forward to receiving your script recommendations. You can email them to Scott Ramp, committee chair. Please let us know your thoughts and thank you for supporting your Pentacle Theatre.

Please welcome Christie Smith, our new ( more than) bookkeeper
Christie Smith has joined the Pentacle Theatre team as our new bookkeeper. She succeeds Julia Sargent who has found a great job nearer to her home in Texas.

Christie comes to us with a perfect combination of arts and accounting experience. She has had more than 20 years of increasing responsibility in government financial management. Her excellent analytical, problem-solving and communications skills will help the theater as we emerge from the pandemic into our new "normal." I know she will help us continue to become more streamlined, more green and more efficient in our operations.

On the artistic side, she is a talented musician and singer. She has led or served in the pit for many Pentacle Theatre musicals and serves on the board of Salem Orchestra.

One of my routine reference check questions is "Is there an area where this candidate could do better?" One reference replied, "Yes. Should have not retired." That's a ringing endorsement.

Please join me in welcoming Christie.

I hope to see you soon at the new office or at the theater!
