Enhancing the lives of women and youth

in our community and the world.

PSSST.. Did you hear, the Soroptimist on-line Fundraiser was AMAZINGLY SUCCESSFUL!

President Paula opened our meeting this week.

Invocation: Colleen read the lovely words from Lydia. The gist of it was....When life is trying and people are hard and stressful, give it your best effort to help, but don't drain yourself to do it. Treat problems like a dog would, If you cant fix it or eat it, pee on it and walk away.

Guest -Sandie McAnish and Julie (our about to be member)

Sunshine: Let's send positive thoughts and prayers for Amy's Father-in-law for his upcoming surgery, for the family of Theresa Peshon, long time Tahoe resident and supporter of our community and for Julie's Sister-in-law to be released from the hospital soon. Let's send out big hugs and congratulations to Joann Shope, who is finally retiring from Christmas Cheer. Here's hoping she will be able to travel and visit family a lot this year.

Biggest news this week! It's finally over! The numbers are in and this year's FUNdraising was a resounding success. Thank you to everyone who made this year so profitable and fun. Special thanks to Paula, Jeanne, Amy, Lisa C., Laurie F., and all the gals who decorated and tore down the decorations at Valhalla and especially the cooks who made all the delicious food behind the scenes. We all had a hand in the success of this event and if my friends are representative of the Mad Hatter success, we will sell out quickly for next year's event !

Our Guest speaker today was Carol Spreckelsen.

Carol has lived at Lake Tahoe for 43 years. She became interested in the Hwy 50 Wagon Train when she first saw it in 1980 at the Round Hill Shopping Center. Carol asked what it was and was informed that it was a bi state historical moving event put on to celebrate the history of Lake Tahoe, the 49er’s, and the welcoming of the State of California into the Union.

This year's event is June 3rd - 10th. Starting at Round Hill shopping center and proceeding to Placerville.

This year is the 74th anniversary of the Wagon train. You can pay to ride a portion of the "trail" by going to www.hwy50wagontrain.com and paying $50. What a way to support this wonderful event and all the people that make it happen each year.

Carol has been involved with the Wagon Train for 34 years and wants to let everyone know about how important this history is to our community. It’s been said that you don’t know where you’re going if you don’t know where you came from. Carol is the only person living at Lake Tahoe who is fully involved with the Wagon Train and she wishes to have the support of the community. If we can spread the word that the community and surrounding areas want this travelling History lesson to happen, they might get more cooperation from the CHP.

June is going to be BUSY!!

SITS Member Items & Our Projects

MEMBERS PLEASE READ:

YES Committee: For years, our club has been hosting the reception for the Senior Projects with homemade cookies and we're back at it again! The reception will be on June 6 but cookies need to get to Shelly by June 5. We also want to be sure that some of our members are present on the 6th so please coordinate with Shelly. STHS is still in need of Senior Project Judges and this is such a great thing to participate in. If you are interested, please email Ashley Aminian at aaminian@ltusd.org.

For your calendars

  • SITS Installation: Mark your calendars now for June 22! This is such a fun event. No one does a better job at thanking their current Board and welcoming in their new one. It's always entertaining!
  • SNR Conference: June 2 - 4, 2023 in Reno. Pres. Paula will send out information, but this is not only a vital way of learning about Soroptimist and all that we do, but it's a load of fun as well. Remember ladies, it is due to our Happy Dollars (funds from our members each week) that we are able to budget funds to attend this conference.
  • Mt. Tallac Prom: Our students at Mt. Tallac will be having their Prom on June 3. Stand by to volunteer for help they may need with decorating! Thank you to our friend Keith Williams, whose beautiful art that was auctioned off last year, is providing the funds for this wonderful occasion. We miss both our dear Sandy and Keith each day and appreciate their love.
