New Police Chief Named - Danny Smyth
As reported earlier, crime & safety was identified as a key issue in our spring member survey. We have allocated the February 16, 2017 Lunch meeting as our Community Safety event and have extended an invitation to the new chief to present to our members.
We are not confirmed as yet however we do anticipate that we will be on the meeting roster of the new chief in due course.

Manitoba Chambers of Commerce - MBIZ Awards
Congratulations to our member, James Richardson International Airport on being a finalist for the MBIZ Awards.
Gala dinner to present the winners in multiple categories is October 28. Best wishes for success in your category.
The Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce is working to enhance our Business Excellence Awards. We can use the support of our members to serve on various sub-committees as we develop this high profile event for spring 2017. Contact Richard at the chamber office if interested.

City of Winnipeg Public Budget Consultations.
The City of Winnipeg's recently launched "Let's Talk, Building a Stronger Winnipeg Together" to gather input and feedback on 2017 Budget priorities and preferences. This year, you can join the conversation both online and face-to-face.

We have launched our charitable campaign that began with the October 20 Luncheon. Raffle Draw tickets are on sale and available from board members or at the office. Grand prize is for a 40" HDTV compliments of Advance Electronics and a wide selection of mystery prizes to be announced at the Dec 15 luncheon.
Through October into early December we will be accepting donations, both cash and food for Winnipeg Harvest at our monthly events and at the chamber office. The special need is always for baby food and formula We are also promoting for our members to host a Winnipeg Harvest bin at their place of business to collect food donations. If you woudl like a collection bin for your business send us an email and we will provide the request form.

Food Fridays Open House, starting November 18 we will be hosting an Open House each Friday to receive your Harvest donations of both cash and food at the Chamber Office. Join us between 10am and 2pm for coffee, fresh baking and fellowship.
Our December 15 lunch event is dedicated to Winnipeg Harvest with a keynote address from David Northcott. The morning of December 15th in advance of the luncheon we will be coordinating chamber members to donate time to pack hampers at the Winnipeg Harvest facility.

MEMBER COUNCILS - New Program
Member Councils are small, by invitation gatherings to meet with other Assiniboia Chamber members, receive presentations on special service offerings, connect with elected officials and discuss topics of the day.
These councils are meant to be nimble, on the spur events that can be implemented quickly through an email invitation or phone call. Our invitation list is developed from our presumptions of member needs.
