During the amazing evening before Jesus’ crucifixion, he had his “last supper” with his disciples, and he taught them about the Holy Spirit. His words are spread through these three chapters of John. Read John 14:16-17, 14:25-26, 15:26, 16:7, 16:13-15.
John remembers Jesus describing the Spirit in a unique way, as the “paraclete,” a Greek word that was used for one’s advocate in court, or for a supporter and encourager. Different Bibles translate “paraclete” differently, as it is a full word in Greek. How does yours translate it?
What roles did Jesus see the Paraclete taking in his followers’ lives? Which of those have you seen already, and which would you like to see more of?
Pray today about the Spirit at work as Paraclete in your life. Give thanks for how he has done so in the last month. Ask for him to take next steps with you in one of these Paraclete ministries.
