NEWS / EVENTS / SPECIALS / TOM'S TIDBITS

Try not to be one of those older bikers that tell everyone about how they used to ride but have no current stories. Life is too short not to ride and there are so many new adventures to be experienced.

A couple of days ago my bro Tom and I decided to go for a day ride and that’s where our adventure started. We left our meeting spot in Savi Ranch, on Yorba Linda Blvd, full of fuel and headed east on the 91 freeway. Traffic wasn’t bad going east. We rode to the 10 then north to Pioneertown on Triumph 1200 Scramblers. Pioneertown is a great place to visit, and you feel like you have stepped into an old west town 100 years ago. We had a bite at the Red Dog Saloon and headed out to ride through Twenty-Nine Palms and the Joshua Tree National Park. The scenery was absolutely incredible, and the riding was just perfect!

Halfway through the park our low fuel lights came on. Our calculations were off, and we had 22 miles to go to get to the 10 freeway. When we got to the 10 there was no gas. We headed west and the first sign we see said 21 miles to Indio! Uh Oh! We had no choice but to continue towards Indio. By the time we could see Indio and the turn off for the gas station in the distance we were sweating it big time! Then with 2 miles to go Tom signaled he was out of gas and we pulled over to the side. Since I had not run out yet, I rode to the gas station, bought a gas can, filled it up, and went back and got Tom’s bike gassed up. Wow!

The rest of the trip was lots of traffic and staring into the setting sun, but it didn’t take away from the fun we had, the sights we had seen, our gasoline adventure, and enjoying those two Scramblers that performed perfectly. It was a 317-mile ride!

We are both 71 years old and are still having motorcycle adventures and creating motorcycle memories like we have been doing for over 47 years. We are not going to stop anytime soon, you shouldn’t either.
