CEO's Blog - Keep Calm, It's Only 81 Days Until Christmas (But Not for CSL!)

Don't worry, you still have a little more than 11 weeks to be prepared for Christmas! However, for our CSL locations, the Christmas season begins in full swing the Monday after our Luminous Gala (Monday, November 5). Why is that?

Christmas Stores at seven of our locations open their doors the week of December 10, so gift and meal counts are finalized by the week of December 3, which means we need all collections to be wrapping (pun intended!) up right after Thanksgiving. A good collection lasts 10-15 days, so we have to start our work in earnest right after the gala is over!

CSL Entrusted with New Grant to House Homeless Veterans

On October 1, 2018, CSL began its third contract for services under the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD's) Supportive Housing Program. What does that all mean?

From HUD's website about Supportive Housing: "The Supportive Housing program is designed to promote the development of supportive housing and supportive services to assist homeless persons in transitioning from homelessness, and to promote the provision of supportive housing to enable homeless persons to live as independently as possible. Grants under the Supportive Housing Program are awarded through a national competition held annually."

Ribbon-Cutting Set for October 8


Join CSL and the Independence Chamber of Commerce at the community ribbon-cutting on Monday, October 8, at 3:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend this celebratory event, and brief remarks will begin at 3:45 p.m.

Thirty-three teams turned out for CSL's 5th annual  Golf Classic , on  Monday, September 24th at  WinterStone  Golf Course . More than $32,000 was raised to help Eastern Jackson County neighbors in need! Christmas is coming! Save-the-date for  Sunday afternoon, December 2nd , to attend one of two treasured community traditions, both benefitting CSL, to kick off the holidays!  The  20th annual Spirit of Caring Concert , presented by the  Blue Springs School District and  St. Mary's Medical Center , will be held at  2:00 p.m . at  Blue Springs High School and the  33rd annual Mayor's Christmas Concert , presented by  Centerpoint Medical Center , will be held at  2:30 p.m. at the  Community of Christ Auditorium in Independence.  Watch for more details in the November First Friday Feature!
