August 7, 2020

Hello friends,

As we get closer to the beginning of the school year, plans are starting to come together. Many districts are opting for a hybrid program and many unions have gotten their district to commit to a mask mandate. (Which I'm hoping we won't need due to Ever's state-wide mask mandate, but we all know how fun Wisconsin politics can be!) Just in case it's repealed, it doesn't hurt to have that commitment now as a possible back up.

There's still time to voice your concerns, ask for accommodations, and ask for clarification on the day to day of what your life will look like. Right now is the moment to bring your concerns to your fellow union members, the school board, and your local health officials. Educators from Region 3 came together to discuss these issues on Facebook Live on Monday, August 3rd. We had over 1,400 views including local television news! You can watch the discussion here:

The 10-Minute Meeting
You have an opportunity to keep members in the loop AND respect their time by holding 10-minute meetings! It's also a great time to get feedback from people in the building.

Get out there and BE VISIBLE!

How can we have 10-minute meetings during the pandemic? Now is probably the BEST time to reach out to your members! Facebook live, Google hangouts, Zoom...

Planning Your New Hire Orientation
Reaching out to new hires in your district is so important to grow your union.

Who is getting hired in what building?
Does the union get time during the district's week or orientation?
Who should talk to them about what your local does and ask them to join?
Do you want to create a fun gift for new joiners like a union t-shirt or sticker?

These are some of the questions your team can discuss in planning your outreach to the new people in your district!
Need help finding out who the new people are?

Webinar: Know Your Rights Presented by WEAC Legal
Get to know your rights in this webinar presented by WEAC Legal. From 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, we'll cover many of the topics educators are anxious about in these uncertain times. WEAC members only. Register now.
WEAC Region 3 would now like to invite members and potential members to these meetings. This is your opportunity, Region 3 members, to bring a non-member friend. Let's show them the value of union membership!
Region 3 created an ESP Connection Call to check in with one another, keep each other in the loop and plan our next steps. It was discovered that now more than ever ESP staff need to be in contact with each other to discuss what their districts are doing, best practices and how to implement them in their own district. The global pandemic has revealed that schools are the social safety nets for many of our communities and that those safety nets work because you do.
Please join us on Tuesday, August 18 at 4 pm via zoom to participate in this important conversation.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Many of these came from
the Early Enrollment program. Contact us to find out how to make this work for your local!
