A Note from Scott and Marsha

Fall has officially arrived at the Garden Center! We have mums, we have pansies, and in only a few short hours, we will have PUMPKINS. Can you believe pumpkin season is already here?!
Marsha has been a busy bee on this short work week. She's working her magic with our amazing staff to decorate every inch of the Garden Center they can get their hands on. This means she has, adorably, completely forgotten to write a story for this newsletter. So while Marsha is off hunting for new unique furniture to add to the displays, more chandeliers to hang in the trees, more antique bicycles to hide all over the property, spreading autumn cheer, and who knows what other surprises, I get the rare chance to entertain you this week.
Earlier this year, Scott and Marsha gave me the opportunity to take on the marketing role and merge it with my events responsibilites, and I gladly accepted the challenge. It has been such a great experience so far and I have loved learning more about the marketing world. One of the opportunities that I have had since then was to particiapte in an ad program through Harris Teeter and create an ad for FGS that will show up in shopping carts in three stores in the Triangle.
Scott was a bit skeptical of this, being so different from what we've done in the past, but when I started the process I have to say I was GEEKING OUT at the idea. I work at a local garden center! These ad spaces are normally occupied by national companies! How COOL would it be to grab a shopping cart, look down, and see an ad for a place so dear to my heart?! I was so excited, I couldn't even fall asleep at night.
The day the carts rolled into the stores, I drove over to find them. I have to admit that I CRIED when I saw them. I'm a nerd and I don't care. There is something so fulfilling to see your work on a scale like this. Just think of all the people who will see the ads as they fold down the baby seat and carefully set down their egg cartons (or, you know, babies)! Some of the ads even have goats with sunglasses on them! Who wouldn't love to see that while they shop for snacks? I'm tearing up just thinking about it.
Next time you're out shopping at Harris Teeter (Southpoint, Green Chapel Hill, or O'Kelly Chapel) do me a favor and try to find a cart with our ad. You can even send me a picture and I'm sure I'll be just as excited as I was the first time I saw it. I even have a new tradition with my husband, Marco, to snap a photo every time we go grocery shopping. I have so many of these in my camera reel. I know, I know - geeky.
Now that the seasons are changing, I have more equally geeky and fun things up my sleeve. Sydney and I have been working hard to create a fall events schedule that will knock your socks off, and it all starts with next week's For Friday's Sake! We've been coordinating with over 100 folks in the Triangle to make it happen and we can't wait to enjoy all of these fun events, classes, and workshops with you!
I absolutely love being a part of FGS and helping more people in the Triangle discover our Garden Center. Don't forget to add us to your fall bucket lists! There's a little bit of something for everyone. See you soon!
-Lizzie

NEANTHE BELLA PALM
Looking for a new plant to add to your shelf? Consider the Neanthe Bella Palm! It is safe for pets, easy-care, and known for its air purifying qualities. It likes medium light but can adapt to some lower-light conditions if needed. Neanthe Bella Palms do not like to get very dry, so make sure you stay on top of your watering schedule!

LILY LEAF PLANTERS
Check out these gorgeous new pottery arrivals! These pots feature a brush of white glaze over clay in a spiraling leaf-like, antique design. They are incredibly sturdy and weather resistant, which makes them perfect for outdoor plantings (like mums!) as well as indoor plantings. They are available in varying shapes and sizes. On display at the front of the Garden Center house now!

SALIX WEEPING PUSSY WILLOW
If you want to add a unique element to your landscaping, look no further than the Pussy Willow! They get up to 8 feet tall and 6 feet wide. Pussy Willows prefer full sun, and soaking the soil every few days (rather than a little bit every day) will help them establish roots. They can also be kept in pots and be moved or grown indoors if needed.
The name comes from the soft, fur-like texture of their flowers. The small, silvery flowers are very soft to the touch. Their stems are too weak to hold the weight of the branches, so we get to enjoy a beautiful weeping formation. When the branches are covered in the blooming flowers, the effect is truly magical.
