Dear Elisa,

Happy Friday! I don't know about you but there is a chill in the air! Sweaters and comfy socks are coming out of my closet and drawers...

I just received my latest museum order assignment from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston for (24) stamp cards for their upcoming Democracy Exhibition at the end of October with Lincoln, Washington, Rosa Parks, Uncle Sam, the US Flag, and the Statue of Liberty which I will be making this weekend - as well as an order for Holiday Angels for the Getty. I will be designing more handmade holiday cards soon so please check back if that would be something you look forward to sending.

Christmas smells will be wafting into our nostrils well before November! I feel like we will be consuming gingerbread men and biting into peppermint bark instead of biting our nails as we wait for election results. Well, of course, I am referring to myself ...LOL!

I apologize in advance if these recent posts are not your thing - I will continue to bring you curated opportunities as I usually do - but because of the time-sensitive nature of our current events, I feel I would be doing an injustice if I didn't pass it on. Sometimes, you know someone who might enjoy it.

In an effort to remind people to Vote, this was my POSTCARD CAMPAIGN assignment...

When I went to send out the postcards, the "script" they gave me to use was to just let people know there was still time to request a ballot and feel confident and safe voting from the comfort of their own home. I included a link where they could request a ballot: turnoutedu.org/ballot (Turn Out Education Project). It also mentioned Election Day (Nov. 5th) so they understood the timetable to send back a ballot because of the mail. My postcard message was not endorsing any candidates and part of the script was to thank people for being a voter. It was very neutral - so if that's how you would like to help, that is probably still an option as they need the postcards to go out by the end of September.

There are other post card campaigns that are candidate and ballot-measure specific (Senator, Governor, House of Rep) but that was not my assignment as a volunteer. My (40) postcards went out to Swing State voters in Pennslyvania because I chose that state. I have some postcards and stamps left over so I'm going to request addresses for a couple of different states until I run out. The little sailboat postcard stamps are very sweet.

Below you will find a picture of the postcard I chose from Amazon - it's neutral and has both red and blue in the design. Writing postcards is like sending a massive amount of Holiday Cards - sometimes, you can only write 10 per day. You can turn it into a game - address all of them, put the stamp on, write Dear ...., then write the message, then use your highlighter to underline important info. Listen to some music or a podcast if you need white noise in the background. It is a little laborious but I feel good that I completed this small task.

But if you are looking for something to send you into Outer Space...

this may be just the antidote! Save the Date!

Many of you may not know that I worked on Star Trek: The Next Generation as a Casting Associate from 1987 to 1989 with Junie Lowry-Johnson – and in that time, I gave many actors some of their first jobs!

One of my dear friends Kitty Swink (who has appeared in several episodes/shows) asked if I would like to join a Zoom call on October 3rd hosted by STACEY ABRAMS and CORY BOOKER. Kitty's husband Armin Shimerman played "QUARK" in "Deep Space Nine."

If you are a Trekkie, here's your chance to "be in the room where it happens" with some of your favorite Female Trek Stars and some influential Galaxy Movers and Shakers and SyFy Sistas in the political sphere. Star Trek Actresses include Kate Mulgrew, Terry Ferrell, Nana Visitor, Jeri Ryan, Gates McFadden, Denise Crosby, Michelle Hurd, Marnie Mosiman, Kitty Swink, Elizabeth Dennehy, Rhonda Aldridge, among others. More presenters are being added.

Please register so you can promote the call to your friends on FB & IG. Here's the link to register. It's super easy - you just need to enter your first name and email. If you have any questions, you can always reach out to: hello@womenofstartrek.com

In case you were curious: This is one of the postcard templates on Amazon that I just used to remind people to request a ballot so they can vote safely from home. It is fully blank on the back and I bought the little sailboat postcard stamps from the post office.
