Make This Season A Masterpiece

There's an art to enjoying the holidays.

Blending time with family and friends, attending holiday parties, doing your Christmas shopping, decorating the house, and partaking of the many seasonal entertainments listed in our calendar can wear out even the heartiest among us.

So, we'd like to suggest an additional activity that will allow you to take a much needed breath, while adding to the quality of your holiday experience.

Visit an art gallery or museum.

There are so many wonderful presentations and displays planned, and seemingly new openings every week. This week is no exception.

So enhance your holidays, and remember "Shop Local" applies to art, too.

Enjoy the week.
We'll see you back here next Thursday.

Theory and Practice of Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence based practice developed and refined to build intrinsic motivation about behavior change. MI is a 'client-centered conversation' focused on the exploration and resolution of 'ambivalence' about a collaboratively defined 'change goal'. This interactive training defines and demonstrates the essential components necessary for 'intentional' practice: MI Spirit, the Four Processes and the core skills; represented by the acronym OARS. Learners will engage in practice opportunities and observe demonstrations of effective and ineffective practice.

The Met Opera Live in HD: Akhnaten
Director Phelim McDermott tackles another one of Philip Glass's masterpieces, following the now-legendary Met staging of Satyagraha. Star countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo is the title pharaoh, the revolutionary ruler who transformed ancient Egypt, with the striking mezzo-soprano J'Nai Bridges in her Met debut as his wife, Nefertiti. To match the opera's hypnotic, ritualistic music, McDermott has created an arresting vision that includes a virtuosic company of acrobats and jugglers. Karen Kamensek conducts in her Met debut.

The Origins of Thanksgiving
In the autumn of 1621, the Wampanoag of what is now called Cape Cod and English colonists, two radically different groups, came together to celebrate a common centuries-old ritual on both sides in peace. How did this happen? Who were the people involved? These questions will constitute the central themes of this presentation. Made possible by the Community Foundation for South Central New York.

Family-Bonding Karaoke!
Which one of your relatives can make a dog howl simply by singing?  Which one makes you want to plug your ears when they hum a tune? Bring them to this special edition of Family-Bonding Karaoke and let your relatives battle it out to see who really is the 'pitchy-est'.  It's therapy in a microphone!
