The Merola Opera Program 2022 Summer Festival kicks off at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with A Celebration of American Song (July 9), a program highlighting the Great American Songbook, and the Schwabacher Summer Concert (July 14 & 16), which spotlights Latin American and Spanish composers. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute), at the Blue Shield of California Theater at YBCA, will be performed by Merola artists for the first time since 1998 on August 4 & 6. The summer wraps up with the celebratory Merola Grand Finale which returns to the War Memorial Opera House stage August 20.

Music@Menlo celebrates its twentieth anniversary this summer with Haydn Connections, exploring chamber music from the Baroque period to world premieres of new works. The festival takes place in Atherton from July 14–August 6 and includes thematic concert programs, artist-curated recitals, full-evening Encounter lectures, and a host of free performances by the artists of Music@Menlo’s Chamber Music Institute. Concerts will be presented both in-person and via live stream.

Conductor Paolo Bortolameolli leads Kevin Puts’ lively SF Symphony co-commission Contact, performed by the genre-bending string trio Time for Three. Also on the program: two wildly different interpretations of the Viennese waltz from Richard Strauss and Maurice Ravel.

In its 60th anniversary Cabrillo returns to a live, in-person concert season July 24-Aug 7 at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium. Culminating with a powerful and profound full orchestra premiere of Jake Heggie’s INTONATIONS: Songs from the Violins of Hope, with texts by Gene Scheer, and the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra led by Cristian Măcelaru and three spectacular guest artists: mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, violinist Benjamin Beilman, and youth violinist Thais Chernyavsky.
