Coral Gables Bolsters Police Presence in Public Schools

The safety of public schools located within the City of Coral Gables is being bolstered with the onsite presence of a police officer for the entire school year. School-based law enforcement officers from either the Coral Gables Police Department (CGPD) or Miami-Dade Schools Police Department (MDSPD) are being deployed on campus to provide a visible deterrent to crime in schools, as part of a Memorandum of Understanding between the City and the school district. Traffic Calming Workshops Ahead: Be Part of the Conversation

The City of Coral Gables is hosting a series of Traffic Calming Workshops to seek your input on how to improve the safety of our streets. The workshops are part of the City's commitment and on-going dialogue with our stakeholders to develop best practices and use proper devices that will mitigate cut-through traffic and reduce speeding on residential streets. Please join us in any of the following meetings that are closest to you:
  • Monday, Sept. 17, 6 - 8 p.m., Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Ave.
  • Thursday, Sept. 20, 6 - 8 p.m., St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 5690 N. Kendall Dr.

City Welcomes New Economic Development Director

Coral Gables is pleased to welcome Pamela Fuertes to the City's Economic Development team. Fuertes comes to the City from the distinguished and public role of Vice President of International Economic Development Programs for the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, the official economic development organization for Miami-Dade County. She has more than 18 years of experience with the Beacon Council with an expertise in international business development, business innovation, corporate engagement and the creative design industry. Fuertes will join the Economic Development Department's six-member team in September. Read more...
Road Work Starts on Salzedo & Alcazar

As announced last month, crews have begun the relocation of a sanitary sewer line on Salzedo Street (between Alcazar and Minorca) and on Alcazar Avenue (between Salzedo and Ponce de Leon Blvd.) This work is necessary prior to the construction of the new Public Safety Building on that block. Access to businesses and properties in the area will be maintained at all times, with the work expected to be done on weekends and at night. There may be temporary lane closures or detours. The project is expected to last 45-60 calendar days. This upgrade will not affect the water or wastewater services in the area. Read more...

Labor Day Schedule

Coral Gables City Hall will be closed on Monday, September 3 in observance of Labor Day.  The following facilities/services will remain open: 
  • Garbage, trash, and recycling services will continue its regular schedule. 
  • Coral Gables Trolley Service will operate its regular route. 
  • War Memorial Youth Center will open 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. 
  • Venetian Pool will open 11 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. 
  • Kerdyk Biltmore Tennis Center will open 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. 
  • Salvadore Tennis Center will open 7 a.m. - 9 p.m.
The following facilities and services will be closed: Passport Office at 4520 Ponce de Leon, the Adult Activity Center at 2 Andalusia Avenue and City Hall.

The National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) included the Coral Gables smart city initiatives into its Global City Teams "Smart and Secure Cities and Communities Challenge" (GCTC).  This program is a collaborative platform for the development of smart cities and communities, led by prestigious technical organizations of national prominence. The NIST launched the Global City Teams Challenge to encourage collaboration and the development of standards, and the City of Coral Gables is shining bright among these top tech national organizations. UM Begins Parking Enforcement to 7 Days/Week

If you're parking at the University of Miami's Coral Gables campus or Gables One Tower building, please note that parking enforcement hours are now being enforced seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. This parking enforcement is controlled by the University of Miami and not the City. All vehicles are required to have their license plate registered with the university during enforcement hours. For daytime campus parkers (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) there will be no change to current practice. Changes apply to night and weekend parkers. Read more...

FDOT is scheduled to begin roadway and crosswalk construction along Bird Road from SW 38 Court to US1/Dixie Highway. Work will be done on stages to minimize impact to traffic.
