WELCOME TO OUR 26TH YEAR!

Detail, "Moving Rug" March 2026

POTLUCK LUNCH, SATURDAY, April 25th, 12:30-3 pm

Save the Date!

Come on by with a dish to share, a project to work on, and a couple of hours to spare! Let's decide of we want to make top down cat sweaters! It's always nice to have a visit with the fiber friends.

Wow! It's past mid-month and with one thing and another, I am just now getting to writing. Turns out that I needed to be stuck waiting for my car at the dealership for an hour to get the uninterrupted space to do it. Sorry that it leaves us all scrambling for last minute plans!

Let's get down to business! April 25th is going to be a big day! Crochet will be at the Big Table from 10-12, the Potluck is from 12:30-3, and it is Local Yarn Shop Day! We will have a sale, 15% off all regular priced yarn (excluding Lani's Lana), tools, and books. We will also be hosting a meet and greet event for one of our local candidates for Supervisor, Tanja Ramming. That will be out on the front lawn, so don't be surprised if you see a bunch of folk out there. It's going to be busy, but fun!

I don't currently have anything but the basics planned for May. Open Table is every Saturday from 10-12 with crochet taking the staring roll on May 9th and 23rd, knitting the 2nd and 16th, and the 30th being whatever it wants to be. Anyone and all fiber forms are welcome any Saturday with certain days having a greater emphasis and assurance of specific knowledge. I am working to get dates for a combined spinning/weaving class (multi breed comparison) in September, and a sock class for later in the Fall.

Also in scheduling, I am going to continue the Tuesday-Saturday, 10-3 hours. What this means is this is the minimum the store will be open. If the open sign is out, come on in! I cover the shop on my own most of the time, and having a slightly reduced schedule helps me stay sane. Even with that, sometimes I need to close the shop, like when my cat started vomiting blood the other day and I needed to get her to the vet (she's fine, and no, it wasn't Abigail). The best way to know if that is happening is to follow our Facebook page! I know not everyone is on FB, but it is where almost 900 people do, and it is the easiest way for me to get information out fast. You can always call ahead to make sure we are open.

With that done, let's talk about THE EXCITING STUFF!

Exciting Thing #1- We have just acquired a new-to-us, Baby Lock "Coronet" long arm quilting machine!! It's a beauty! Barbara and I are going to spend the next couple of months getting to know it, and once we do, it will be available to rent to use (in the shop) on an hourly basis. I am hoping to get someone in to do some quilting classes over the next few months, but I have no timeline on that yet. Combining this with our existing 5 domestic machines, and an overlock machine, we have the basics for being able to do some real sewing instruction eventually! If this is interesting to you, I would like to get a group together to talk about what people want, and to see what we can get going.

Exciting Thing #2- I am hoping to have the "Weaving With Raw Fleece" class at the end of June, possibly the 27th and 28th. Final date will be determined by when I can get the looms here. Day one we will cover how to warp the loom, and weave straight from the fleece by creating a seat pad for your favourite chair. Day two, we will cover how to clean your piece, and boy will it need cleaning! This class will be a dirty one, with plenty of grease and mud to go around. If the creek is still running sufficiently, we will be heading to Cedar Creek to start the cleaning process in the free running water (like they did a thousand years ago!). While the pieces rinse in the water, I'll show you some of the dye plants we can forage in the area. Each student will go home with a 30"-40" loom, and a bag of fleece to continue the fun. The class will run from 10-3 each day, and will +/- $450. Concrete details and sign up to come.

You've seen the photos before, but I figured I'd remind you.

Lastly, yoga is back (see below) and the Modoc Harvest Food Hub is now distributing Surprise Valley orders from here in the shop on Friday mornings from 10-12. I'm really happy about the Hub being here, as Modoc Harvest is one of the first things I got involved with here in Modoc, and they are what has kept me eating healthy here for years!

Crochet Classes!

April 25th, May 9th & 23rd, from 10am to 12noon.

NOW FREE! JUST SHOW UP!

Just starting out? Barbara will teach you the basics and get you going on your first scarf (which you must wear, even if it is wonkey). Already know a few things but are stuck on something new? Barbara is excellent at helping work through those spots and teaching you how to, as well. Just want to sit and crochet with others while soaking up crafting wisdom? That's the way we like it, too! Ongoing classes.

If you are interested in learning one-on-one, please call the shop and we can schedule a private class at your convenience. $20/hr per person.

Adrienne will be at the craft table downstairs to help you learn how to knit or to help workout that new technique you've been dying to try. All levels welcome. This is an informal, no pressure learning offering and a great way to get started!

As with all our classes, if you are interested in one-on-one learning, please call the shop and we can schedule a private class at your convenience. $20/hr per person.
