President's Message, October 2023
It seems like just a few years ago that metal back PCBs (MCPCBs) were a rarity, Back then it was a technology that only a few PCB fabricators offered. Now these thermal control boards are in just about everything.
Knowing this month's newsletter was going to be about MCPCBs and thermal management, I thought it would be informative to list some of the more prevalent products that require them.
Here are the top ten end-products that require thermal management using MCPCBs:
-
LED Lighting: To dissipate heat, expanding the life span of the LED and maintaining their performance.
-
Automotive Electronics: They are used in electronic components including LED headlights, power modules and engine control units as well as other systems.
-
Power Electronics: They are used in converters and inverters as well as motor drives to prevent overheating.
-
Aerospace and Defense: Used in critical applications such as radar, communication systems and avionics where they can withstand extreme temperatures.
-
Telecommunications: To ensure heat dissipation during continuous non-stop operations.
-
Industrial Equipment: They are used on robotics, automation, and manufacturing equipment where they can withstand harsh environments and maintain reliability.
-
Medical Devices: Used in imaging equipment as well as diagnostic devices to ensure precise and consistent and reliable operation.
-
Consumer Electronics: In high-end consumer products like gaming laptops and desktop computers to enhance thermal performance and prevent overheating during intensive tasks.
-
Solar Inverters: They are used to manage the power generated by solar panels, converting it into usable electricity while dissipating heat.
-
Renewable Energy: They are used in wind turbine controllers and other renewable energy systems. They help handle the electrical and thermal demands of the equipment in various environmental conditions.
And that's not all. These are just a few of the products and industries where metal-backed printed circuit boards are commonly used. The choice to use MCPCBs depends on the specific requirements of the application, particularly in terms of heat dissipation and durability.

As always, we thank you for your business.
