Basketball Excitement Mounts for Mansfield High School During January of 1969
A number of historical events occurred during January of 1969 but nothing in the national and international news got more attention in Mansfield than the success of the Mansfield High School Tigers boys basketball team. Under the direction of head coach Rich Miller, the Tigers got 44 points from Tom McMillen with Stan Heinrich adding 10 points in an 84-51 win over North Penn and beat Williamsport 72-46 in the first month of 1969. McMillen, who was named Sport magazine Teen Athlete of the Month, would be honored at the annual Elmira Sports Banquet late in the month sharing the dais with legendary Olympic sprinter Jesse Owens and Ron Swoboda of the World Champion 1969 New York Mets.

Join us March 14th and 15th for an open house commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of this milestone in Mansfield's History - The PA State Basketball Championship.
Following are 2018 deaths we know about for MHS Alum with the graduation year. You can find the obituaries on the individual   class pages.

Barn Charm Quilt Blocks craft class
Sunday, February 17th at 1:00 the History Center is hosting another creative workshop! Barn Charm quilt blocks are 2' x 2' wood designs that are painted with exterior paint so that they can be placed on your barn, shed, patio, etc. Of course, they could also go inside your home, too. They remind me of Hex Signs that were seen on barns through out Pennsylvania in the past.
The workshop is from 1:00 until 5:00 and the cost is $35 which includes all materials. The class instructor, Nina Sakers, will have the design drawn on the wood. We will create our own unique design through our choice of colors. Examples of Barn Charms are below.
Space is limited due to the large size of the project , so let me know if you want to reserve a spot. A couple past workshop participants have already signed up! Call or e-mail soon! 570-662-2955, [email protected] .
