They can' take that away from me
|

George and Ira Gershwin teamed up to become two of the greatest songwriters of the early twentieth century. Their compositions spanned both popular and classical genres, and their most popular melodies are widely known.
Here at Featherstone, we take inspiration from them- aspiring to wines that are popular but built on classical principles. David, our winemaker, has long admired the Gershwins. He played a little piano in his youth. “Rhapsody in Blue” was a favourite tune, often blasted at volume from his university dormitory room. Fortunately for him, the music had charms to soothe, and HE was not blasted from the dorm.
As Gershwin said: “ Life is a lot like jazz, it`s best when you improvise.” We have had a wonderful time improvising with the seasons and the vines, the ferments and the barrels, the food and the events. We are looking forward to Summertime and some livin' that`s easy as things get jumping and the vineyard grows high. Come and join us.

Better than an American in Paris
Dave will be a Canadian in Paris and Champagne at the end of July when he travels with 20 of his winemaking colleagues from Niagara. Together, they will explore the great French champagne houses in Reims. Nice work if you can get it!

The 2016 Muddy Paws Festival runs July 9 & 10, 2016 from noon to 5 pm.
Tickets: $20 (+ hst) and give access to the Festival area at both wineries.

'S Wonderful, 's marvelous

On July 9 & 10, The Muddy Paws Wine Festival will encourage you to "Come. Sip. Stay." This unique Festival presents an opportunity to celebrate excellent wine and food in Niagara- and to bring along your best four-legged friends.
On this weekend, Vineland Estates Winery and Featherstone Winery will open their doors to friendly dogs on-leash who wish to accompany their owners.
Yappy Hour: Wines will be available by the glass ($8) and the Jazz Trio “MGM” will delight you all afternoon, perhaps with a few spot-on renditions of Gershwin tunes.
Hot Diggity Dog! For the four-legged visitors, fresh dog treats will be baked in our wood-fired pizza oven. National Service Dogs will be visiting with their puppies in training and a portion of sales will be donated to them.
Who's a good boy? Chef Patrick Engel is a good boy! He will be serving his nearly world famous buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches and charcoal-grilled tacos with fixings. ($8 each).

Embraceable You
Although we love all the many charms about you, please note that the winery will be closed to the public on Sat Sept 10, 2016 for a small, family celebration.
As well, the winery will close at 4 pm on Sat June 25 for the private birthday celebration of a family friend.

Isn’t it a Pity?
Why do you wander, here and there and yonder, when the Featherstone Veranda is open for noshing on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am- 4 pm. Enjoy a glass of wine and a cheese board while soaking in the vineyard views. The veranda closes for the season on Labour Day.
The Tasting Room is open 7 days a week from 11 am – 5:30 pm in June, July and August. Do these hours continue in the fall? It ain’t necessarily so…in September, the veranda closes and the tasting room is open only on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am- 5:30 pm.
