What started out as a lovely day, filled with ambition and energy, went downhill fairly quickly, as befits the times we're living in, I guess.
That's my explanation and apology for the lateness of today's Arts Blast. Shortly after lunchtime, the background of most of what you see here turned black. To my credit, there was no gnashing of teeth, no tearing of hair — just a sigh of quiet resignation. And it got fixed.
Enjoy all the news and don't forget to check the calendar often.

Prepping Kids for Musical Theatre at Riverside
|
Riverside Theatre For Kids announces New Musical Theatre Dance Classes designed for help young performers to help with their musical theatre training.
“I am just super excited that we finally have figured out a way to capture the interest of our theatre students,” said Director of Dance Education Adam Schnell. “These young performers have been wanting to get more dance, but might have been intimidated by the main program or couldn’t because of rehearsal schedules.”
The classes focus on Jazz, Tap and Classical dance styles to help in musical theatre performance.
|
Jazz for Musical Theatre
Recommended for ages 10+
Saturdays 9 – 10am
This open level class will explore the fundamentals of jazz technique, which is integral to the success of any musical theatre performer.
|
Classic Musical Theatre Choreography
Recommended for ages 10+
Saturdays 10 – 11am
This open level class will allow students to explore choreography from the musical theatre canon in depth. A must for aspiring performers or those who simply want to have fun learning stellar choreography. Participation in at least one other dance class is required for registration.
|
Tap for Musical Theatre
Recommended for ages 10+
Saturdays 11am – 12noon
This open level class will explore the fundamentals of tap technique, which is the integral to the success of any musical theatre performer.
|
Schnell said, "It is nice that with the sort of slow down of the pandemic we have finally been able to address the fact that often younger students come to us to pursue theater and do not really have a great jumping off point into our dance classes. These classes are the perfect answer for that, and if you throw in our stellar faculty, it is a win win!"
A scholarship program to provide financial assistance is available to qualifying students.

New Installation for Cultural Council's Art For Art's Sake
|
From the Cultural Council of Indian River County:
How does the artist create in a world of social distancing? What inspires an artist in isolation?
These are the questions the Cultural Council of Indian River County put to its visual arts members back in March when personal interaction defaulted to online connections. Their submitted works have been on display on the Cultural Council’s webpage, Art for Art’s Sake. Now, in a full circle, from the electronic medium to the public space, Art For Art’s Sake: “Art in social isolation,” will be exhibited at Vero Beach Regional Airport Sept. 9 through January 1, 2021.
|
Twelve artists were selected from among dozens who have submitted art to the website (www.cultural-council.org/art-for-art-sake). There are 20 works in various mediums on display. “Since the inception of Art For Art’s Sake in March, we have been continually receiving wonderful images created by area artists,” said Mark Wygonik, administrator of the Art in Public Places project. “Memories of places near and far, happy times spent with family and friends, pride and patriotism of country, are several of the themes that are resonating at this time.”
|
The Cultural Council’s Art in Public Places program has been exhibiting works of art around the county since 2015. The four venues, IRC Courthouse, buildings A and B at the Administration Complex, the Intergenerational Recreation Center and the Vero Beach Regional Airport, offer local artists the opportunity to exhibit their art and the public to enjoy the creativity and visual interest in otherwise plain places. Artists are called to submit their works, sometimes relating to a theme. The selections are on display for a three- to four-month rotating time period.
The Cultural Council of Indian River County, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, promotes visual, literary and performing arts through education, collaboration, marketing and advocacy to enrich the lives of residents and visitors. For more information visit www.Cultural-Council.org or phone 772-770-4857.
