Ten Gobbles from Steve

Our office is closed Wednesday and Thursday in observance of the Pilgrims inventing turkey. We will reopen Friday at 12:00 noon.

______________

As we enter the most joyous time of the year for so many, please take a moment to consider ways you can help those less fortunate

in our community.

Be grateful for all the gifts and graces you have been given.

As for me, I’m grateful that I don’t need to use deodorant.

I’m just Nutty about both, Nuts and Crackers

Two years ago Ben Stiller, Linda Cardellini and company filmed a good portion of the family-friendly holiday hit, NUTCRACKERS right here at The Murphy Theatre. We are so excited to be bringing the movie and some of the stars back for a special screening once again, on Friday, November 28, the day after Thanksgiving and the day before THE Ohio State Buckeyes wipe “ ”ichigan off the map.

Showtime is 7:00 Friday, and tickets are just $10 each. You’ll have an opportunity to meet the four young stars, the Janson brothers, who also happen to dance with ballet tech® of ohio’s Nutcracker Ballet which is also returning to The Murphy Theatre on December 13 and 14. Tickets for the movie will be available at the door, and doors open at 5:00. We hope to turn this into an annual traditional event, and your participation or lack there-of will greatly influence that decision.

Who doesn’t love a parade?

(2)

I know I do.

The annual Holiday tradition that brings thousands to downtown, Holidazzle returns on Saturday, November 29.

Start your night off by stopping in Charlie’s, the official Wassail Station of the Holidays, for a cold one, or a hot one. Charlie’s will open at 3:00, so you can start warming up early, and we’ll have Murphy staff on hand to sell memberships, gift cards, and Murphy merchandise, including the sweatshirts and hoodies to keep you warm for that 7:00 parade.

At 5:00 catch the Community Band Christmas Concert, followed shortly thereafter by a performance from Wilmington High School’s Chorale, and the Wilmingtones. All of these performances are absolutely free.

Something so trivial, yet so impactful…really?

Smarty Pants Trivia’s 40th Anniversary is Tuesday, December 2. Doors open at 5:45 and the first question rolls out at 6:30. The Trivia Tribunal Universal Rules Department has lifted their 4-person team limit for the holidays, so as many who want play on one team can do so! We thank the fine people who make up the T.T.U.R.D. for their kind spirit during this time of giving and giving back. God bless us everyone.

$5 to play, and free if you’re a Murphy Theatre member. The winning prizes are so grand, that I fear too many may show up to play, so we’re not telling you what those prizes are. Hopefully they’ll stay alive by then.

Original music takes the Murphy Stage

Our awesome pals with Songs at the Center are returning on Wednesday, December 3 for two recording sessions for their series seen in over 400 PBS markets, coast to coast. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Eric Gnezda, and Amy Paulin back, along with their incredible crew for this event.

The first session begins at 12:30, and is part of their Master series, featuring Diego Figueiredo. This should take a little more than an hour, and we expect it to finish around 1:45-2:00.

Later in the day they will be recording another session at 3:30 with a group from Charleston, West Virginia, known as, The Carpenter Ants. This session may go a wee bit longer, from 3:30 to 5:30.

Charlie’s will open for concessions at 11:30, then close for some recording segments taking place inside Charlie’s from 2:00 to 3:00, then will reopen in time for more snacks and beverages to be purchased before the 3:30 taping session.

These sessions are free to anyone who would like to sit in and respectfully enjoy some great music and learn the story behind the art. Because this is a recording session we ask that parents planning to attend with small children please keep this in mind, and use your discretion.

Santa Claus is coming to the Murphy.

I know him.

(5)

Saturday, December 6, at high noon, Mr. December himself will be sitting on his throne for all the wee little ones to come gather around and share with him all the goodness they brought into the world this year, then promptly ask for cash, cars, and a new cell phone. Santa will be here from 12:00 to 1:00, after which time we will show the movie The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. That’ll be around 1:15-ish depending on the Santa line. We will let Santa tell us when we can start the movie.

A visit with Santa, the movie, and the popcorn during the movie are free, thanks to our friends from Main Street Wilmington.

Are you interested in the art of Improv Comedy?

(10)

It’s the art of YES..anding, not only helpful in the theatre, but incredibly useful in everyday life.

I am resuming LAUGH-You improv classes in 2026, and our first meeting to get a sense of what this fun craft is all about will be held Wednesday, January 21, at 6:30 at the theatre. There is no cost for this first ninety-minute informational workshop, and ages 14 and up are welcome to attend. From there we will create a calendar of classes that will be the right fit for your skill level. Classes will then meet once a week for two hours, five weeks in a row, most likely on Wednesdays. Cost for these five week sessions will be $60.00. We will then take a week break, then resume for another five weeks, and so on. We currently have 15 adult students in a class, and it’s been a really fun experience not just for them, but for me as the instructor. Hope to see you there on 1/21 at 6:30.

THANK YOU ~ THANK YOU ~ THANK YOU
