The Countdown Is On

Around here, we are eagerly awaiting the Festival of Combustion—our biggest event of the year! Because like you, we are awed by the talents of the foundry crew, makers, artists, glassblowers, potters, musicians, educators, and performers. It truly is a celebration of the creatives working in the industrial arts and American crafts!

We're also excited to announce a brand new experience—Carrie: After Dark. This special, one-night-only tour on Friday, October 13 will offer adults the opportunity to explore the darker side of Carrie, from first hand accounts of contemporary paranormal activities to actual historical events of incidents onsite that may have contributed to restless souls inhabiting the historic landmark. Come prepared . . . and bring a flashlight.

What else? We do still have a few spots available for the upcoming Intro to Iron Casting and the Small-Mold Iron Intensive workshops. Both cohorts will be pouring their molds during the Festival of Combustion. These experiences are only offered twice a year, so if you're looking to work with iron—now's the time!

Before those events, though, we have the penultimate Homestead Live Fridays event for this season. This early fall weather makes for a great evening exploring live music, food, and art along Homestead's avenues. Make the most of it!

In other community news, the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will soon be hosting an exhibition by Turkish and Ukrainian artists working with the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh. Read more about this restorative collaboration in this month's Community Spotlight story.

Finally, before you head over to the Festival of Combustion on October 7, you can stop by the Braddock Carnegie Library Association's annual Chili Cook-Off at Brew Gentlemen and / or Grow Pittsburgh's 6th Annual Braddock Fall Festival at Braddock Farms.

See you soon!

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT SERIES

Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh

A new exhibition of works by Turkish and Ukrainian immigrants will open at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh on October 3. The story behind the works is one of healing and adaptation, but the collaborations that made this moment possible were seeded years before when several local organizations began working together to support recent immigrants.
