Student Earns GED and CNA
Congratulations to Reading Connections student H'seo "Michelle" Nie who earned her GED and CNA at GTCC!

You may recognize Michelle as one of the students featured in our agency video. She has always been a hard worker with big goals.

We are so proud of Michelle and excited about her accomplishments. We can't wait to see what she does next!
Intern Spotlight: Trevor Mason
One of the great things about working at Reading Connections is the opportunity to mentor and support college interns who work with us. The staff has really enjoyed getting to work with Trevor Mason, a Greensboro College rising sophomore majoring in Math Education.

Trevor came to Reading Connections last spring through a work-study program. He has continued working with us this summer in a variety of roles. While most of his time is spent in the office, he has also worked off-site, recruiting new students and tutors, and assisting with our Family Literacy program.

A Student's Journey to Citizenship
Agali came to the United States in 1998. While he had no formal schooling in his home country of Niger, he knew that he needed to learn English if he wanted to be able to support his family in their new country. He enrolled in ESOL classes at GTCC but found that the learning environment was more suited to students who had previous school experience. His friend told him about Reading Connections, and he was eventually matched with his tutor Trisha Minnix.

Last fall, Agali came to class and told Trisha that he had registered for and paid to take the U.S. citizenship test. He only had a few months to prepare.

“He brought the book to class, handed it to me and said this is what I need to learn,” said Trisha. “I felt a slow panic.”
