Dear Friends of Whole Grains,

Do you know how you'll be celebrating Whole Grain Sampling Day next month? We have more than 144 live events happening across the US & Canada, and we'd love for you to join us.

Even if you don't work in the nutrition field, there are many ways that you can get involved:
  • Plan a whole grain food drive at your child's school.
  • Lead a whole grain grocery store tour for your community or church group.
  • Post your favorite whole grain recipe to social media.
  • Buy a new-to-you ancient grain at the grocery store, then research a recipe and try it out.
  • If you work at a food business, offer coupons on whole grain items at your food business.
Contact Kelly at Kelly@oldwayspt.org to access marketing materials, and get help publicizing your event.

COST COMPARISON: WHOLE GRAINS VS REFINED GRAINS

Four in ten people say cost is a barrier to eating more whole grains. But is that true? The evidence we uncovered in a typical grocery store aisle may surprise you.

HOW TO MAKE WHOLE GRAIN VERSIONS OF YOUR FAVORITE RECIPES

It may feel intimidating to try to modify the listed ingredients on a recipe -- especially when you aren't sure how this will affect the cooking time. But with our expert tips, it's a lot easier than it sounds.

WHOLE GRAINS LINKED WITH LESS COLORECTAL CANCER

In a Harvard study of more than 130,000 adults, those eating a healthy diet rich in fiber and whole grains were significantly less likely to develop a certain type of colorectal cancer than those eating a "Western diet" rich in red meat, refined grains, and dessert.

NEWS FROM OUR FRIENDS

February is Cancer Prevention Month
Evidence suggests that the synergy of different foods and nutrients working together offers the strongest cancer protection, so it is no surprise that whole grains are an important part of the cancer fighting pack. To read more about cancer prevention, learn from our friends at the American Institute for Cancer Research.

February is Bake for Family Fun Month Each February, the Home Baking Association celebrates Bake for Family Fun Month. Join in the fun by baking a whole grain recipe with friends and family, such as the Amaranth Banana Bread recipe featured above, and be sure to check out their Baking with Whole Wheat Flour 101 tip sheet.
