As many of our readers ponder on the possibility of investing in Costa Rica, we want to share Kevin Walters' insights on this matter. Kevin is an Investment Consultant with dual citizenship of the United States and Australia.  Since 2008, he has been studying markets that appeal to investors, and from 2008 to 2013 he and his team saw just over $35 million in sales and closed over 525 transactions. His first visit to Costa Rica's Central Pacific was in 2013. During his most recent visit to the area, he shared his impressions with us.

 

"I had heard many wonderful things about the area and had to see it for myself.  Since my first visit I have been hearing more and more about investing in Central America and even more about Costa Rica. So I decided to come back and have another look and with great surprise I can see why.

 

What I have noticed most... New buildings have been built and completed like the new Crocs Casino; the influx of luxury cars has amazed me and the amount of tourism is WAY up.  Just like I did while traveling thru the US on my due diligence, I have been asking bar owners and wait staff what they have noticed and I am pleased to say that all have answered with smiles on their face!

 

Another thing that I look at for myself and other investors is the growth of airports; both in size, introduction of new airline carriers and how many more travelers there are.  Well with a new airport in the works that plans on landing the A-380 you can rest assure they are seeing great potential in the region.  Southwest airlines has begun flights into San Jose and European carriers such as Thompson are on their way by the end of the year.

 

Like any other foreign property investment you need to know quite a bit about their laws, taxation, bank accounts, free hold or lease property, capital gains taxes (if any), property management fees, etc.
