We have three important tasks underway here at the State Chamber:
The playbook of how businesses work safely or reopen to employees and customers is being written now, and we need your ideas. The leadership of the State Chamber and Delaware Business Roundtable are speaking with the Governor today with an eye towards establishing those guidelines.
Next, we are in conversation with leaders of the largest segments of Delaware's economy to gather their input and identify immediate needs once the signal to 'open' is given. Part of that conversation is Judy Diogo of the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce. Judy also manages a group of all 14 chambers across Delaware, called the Association of Chambers of Commerce of Delaware. The group put out a survey to each of our members to collect additional data that will guide our thinking too. The goal is to coalesce around common, urgent needs and communicate that clearly to the Governor and his team.
Finally, we are developing long-term policy ideas with others in the hopes of moving Delaware from “good to great” in the next couple of years. Now is the time to make large, meaningful changes to the economy so when we look back on this experience years from now, we see a higher skilled workforce, streamlined regulatory process, easy access to broadband, and more.
Earlier today the Chicago Fed released national economic activity data for the month of March. On Tuesday, we will see existing as well as new home sales figures for March. We wrap up the week on Friday with an early look at consumer sentiment for April.
DelDOT Secretary Jennifer Cohan will update us on the work DelDOT is continuing to perform during this public health crisis, including multiple projects on Rt. 1, I-95, as well as important DMV and DART transportation information.
