Communion Sunday, March 7 ~ “Beguiled by Beauty: Awe and Wonder”
To wonder is to let in a sense of awe and openness, a sense of deep curiosity. It is to look upon the face of anyone or anything and say, “You are a part of me I do not yet know.” Song of Songs affirms that we are wondrously created. As we continue our Lenten journey, “Beguiled by Beauty,” may we behold one another in awe and wonder.

On March 7, we will share together Holy Communion in our online interactive worship. Before the time of the service, you will want to prepare some bread - a slice, a small loaf, a tortilla, a rice cake - a wheat product is not necessary. Let it be something you alone, or your with others in your household, may break and share. Prepare a cup or cups of juice or your choice of wine-with or without alcohol.

Sue Wallace leads the Church Growth Committee

|
Introducing the 2021-2022 Board - Sue Wallace
|
I was born and raised in Ponca City, OK, and taught for 15 years in Pauls Valley, OK, before coming to Redlands in 1986. I was a high school social studies teacher for 36 years, 21 of those here in Redlands. My home church growing up was a Disciples of Christ church so transitioning to a UCC church was not difficult. I joined RUCC in 2012 and almost immediately began to take an active role in the church life. I live with my niece, Carol Chaney, who is also a member of the church and my grandniece, Xhantel Chaney who is a junior at Redlands High School. I served as church secretary for three years and currently serve on the Stewards and Education committees. I have also been the flower coordinator, working to help members dedicated flower arrangements at Sunday services.
As a member of the board, I am the leader of the Church Growth committee. Our role is to be concerned with reaching out to individuals who have no church affiliation and encouraging members to integrate newcomers into the life of the church. One of our jobs is to provide greeters for the Sunday morning services, when we are live, and aiding our minister in orienting new members into the church life. If you are interested in serving as a greeter and serving on the Church Growth committee, please contact me.

Racial Justice Reflection for the Week
U.S. life spans have dropped by one year (from about 79 to 78 years) but Blacks’ life expectancy has dropped nearly three years. The gap between Black and white Americans, while previously narrowing, is now six years, the largest since 1998.

From the Environmental Justice Team

“Trees don't rely exclusively on dispersal in the air, for if they did, some neighbors would not get wind of the danger. Dr. Suzanne Simard of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver has discovered that they also warn each other using chemical signals sent through the fungal networks around their root tips, which operate no matter what the weather. Surprisingly, news bulletins are sent via the roots not only by means of chemical compounds but also by means of electrical impulses that travel at the speed of a third of an inch per second. In comparison with our bodies, it is, admittedly, extremely slow. However there are species in the animal kingdom, such as jellyfish and worms, whose nervous systems conduct impulses at similar speed. Once the latest news has been broadcast, all oaks in the area promptly pump tannins through their veins.”
