Minimum Pay Requirements If Employees Sent Home Early
Q: Can I send employees home early if there is not enough work or for disciplinary reasons? If I can, should I just pay them for the amount of time that they actually worked or is there some minimum pay requirement?

A: Sending nonexempt employees home before they have completed their full scheduled shift is perfectly legal. California, however, does impose reporting time pay requirements when employees are not permitted to work their full shift.

Chamber News

The DoubleTree hotel in Dana Point has debuted an $8 million renovation that has refreshed its guest suites, gathering spaces and outdoor lounges.  The hotel, at 34402 Pacific Coast Hwy., has 196 renovated suites and gathering spaces capable of holding as many as 400 people.

The renovation blended the styles of a beach house and a boutique hotel, said Bill Reider, the general manager of DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Doheny Beach, in a statement.

Dana Point, California has pledged up to $200,000 for the installation of a life-size bronze statue to celebrate company namesake Hobie Alter, inventor of the modern foam-core surfboard and a watersports pioneer. Located on Pacific Coast Highway near Doheny State Beach, the gateway to the city and only a mile away from Hobie's original surf shop, the statue will show Hobie politing his iconic Hobiecat, and along the sides will feature Hobie following his passions and innovating new ways to have fun in the water: surfing, with a skateboard and shaping a surfboard

Foundation leader Robbie Roberson told the city council that the city should embrace its surf heritage. "He put us on the map starting with mass-producing surfboards and later developing urethane wheels for skateboards. Having the sculpture at the city's entrance is like having the Spirit of St. Louis in your front yard," he said.

25 years ago, Pascal Le Vettet embarked on a long adventure called "Bonjour Cafe", not expecting that they would be talking about it today, but certainly happy that they became a staple in this part of the world! They've been through three remodelings, many menu changes, hired many great employees and of course, won the loyalty of dozens of regulars who found them as their home away from home. Despite all the new trends in the food industry they stayed focused with their original goal, brin ging a slice of Parisian Bistro food, ambiance and service. Their fresh ingredients and great recipes brought thousands of customers who have turned into regulars as well as extended family! Thank you Pascal and Sandy!

The Dana Point Chamber members are committed to continued education, not just for current business owners but also for future entrepreneurs.  That's why we've created scholarships for Dana Hills High School students.  Each year our members raise money to be awarded to students interested in pursuing an education in Business, Community Service, Culinary Arts, Marine Science and Hotel Management.

Over the past two years we have donated $15,000 to Dana Hills High School students and this coming school year we'd like to support even more students and we need your help! Help us reach our goal of  $5,000! Pledge a donation to the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce for the Dana Hills High School Awards Program. Awards will be presented in June 2017 at the Dana Hills High School Senior Awards ceremony.
