DANCE START

Leaping into New Locations

In partnership with Episcopalian Community Service and Southwestern College Dance, Samuel Lawrence Foundation is expanding its Dance Start program to include Head Start preschools in South County. All of us are excited to bring the proven benefits of creative movement to new locations. For the fall, our plan is to work with Southwestern and SDSU to bring Dance Start to still more sites.

FIRST FRIDAY WEBINAR

Digging into America's most toxic place

Journalist Joshua Frank told a sobering story about America's most toxic place during our First Friday webinar on May 5.

In his book "Atomic Days," Frank digs deeply into the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, home to 56 million gallons of radioactive waste.

Thanks so much to Joshua and to Dr. Peter Andersen for moderating the talk, which we have summarized with a 2 1/2-minute trailer.

COLLABORATOR'S CORNER

Gary Headrick, San Clemente Green

We tip our hats to Gary Headrick, co-founder of San Clemente Green. Gary's grassroots organization works to address safety problems at San Onofre and other environmental issues. As a blogger and organizer, Gary shines bright light into Southern California Edison's darkest corners. We salute his dogged determination and, through it all, his approachable personality.

In addition to his advocacy, Gary is a talented baker. If you're lucky, he'll bring his sourdough bread to your potluck. Keep up the great work, Gary!
